Warm and Natrual question. Help please!
 

The question I have is does warm and natural have a grain? I found the piece I have isn't long enough, unless I lay it at a angle. I could cut it and butt the seams and it would be long enough, but really want to use one piece. I have not preshrunk the batting. This is my first table runner.:eek:

Is it okay to lay a table runner on the batting which ever way it will fit so I don't have to use two pieces?

If it had been pre-shrunk and if the quilting is quite close, I would do it. I do not know if Warm and Natural shrinks more one way or the other (lengthwise vs. crosswise).

My guess is that W&N shrinks uniformly because it is needlepunched through a poly scrim. The poly scrim should keep the shrinkage uniform.

I do this all the time. I also sew smaller pieces of batting together to form a bigger piece and I've never worried about which way the pieces go together. I just try to find the smallest piece of my batting that the project will fit on so I'm not constantly cutting larger pieces off the roll, there by making more smaller pieces to use.

I zig zag my scrap pieces together all the time for table runners or wall hangings. Never had a problem.

I've used it any which way with no ill-effects. I would say it would be more important to get the right side correct!

I piece mine all the time and am not particular with going with any grain and have never had a problem.

As a previous post stated, W&N does have a scrim in it so you should be OK. I piece my batting using 2" cut strips of lightweight fusible interfacing.

I do not like surprises - when in doubt - and the component is washable - I soak it in hot water before cutting it.

I would like a table runner to lay as flat as possible - and would like to get as much possible shrinkage out of the way before assembling the item.

I have been so confused about which batting to use. I never kept track of which brand I used. Noticed that the more quilts I make, the less I understand what kind of batting would be best. I sent an email to Hobbs and they sent me a big package of all their battings and information of each. No charge. So nice, now I have nice size samples to try out.
