Warning- preprinted wholcoth and spray basting
 

Spray basting or the fusiable batting is not a good idea with these preprinted wholecloth products. There has been at least one report that using spray or fusiable seals the dye and causes it not to wash out.

Holice, I am so glad you posted this. I am in the process of hand quilting your Welsh Beauty right now. I bought a grace 44 frame when I bought my quilt top because I had ask this same question about spray basting before hand. I hope others see and follow your advice.
On a side note. Do you know if you will be designing anymore in the future? I can't wait to finish this one and start another. All your patterns are lovely.

Some of those preprinted items never wash out. I have a queen size quilt my grandmother embroidered buy hand it is over 30 years old, has been washed multiple times and still has the marks. Every times it is washed we try something new.

The washout preprinted didn't become available until the early 1990' around ,92 .thosr printed earlier used a oil base ink which was set when heat printed. The lines just won't come out unless bleached and the embroidery is also bleached out.

Hummm. Interesting. I did a preprinted embrodery quilt, probably early 60s. Didn't acturally do the quilting until probably 20+ years later. It washed out just fine..........thankfully. I have no idea what brand it was. Only know it was a light blue back ground, and X stitched embrodery with darker blue floss. I must have done something right that day!

Good to know that. Long ago I had some preprinted blocks and washed them. like I do all my fabrics before putting them into a quilt. duh! the preprinted design washed out of course. But I never thought of fusible batting or basting spray. thanks.
