Do you have enough to trim a piece off and test? I would wash a little piece in very hot water and put it on a white paper towel to dry. If there was any colour transfer to the paper towel, I don't think I would use it to cover my ironing surface. if it is colorfast then go ahead and use it.

I agree - don't wash it, do a color test. If it's color fast, it will make an excellent pressing surface. Cotton duck will grab your fabric so it doesn't slide as you're pressing, and as BellaBoo said, spritz water on it and it will shrink to fit your board like a glove.
