I have finished my machine applique quilt and don't know if i should wash it or not. My quilt teacher said not to because it might frey... but I don't know if it will look like a quilt if it's not washed. It won't fluff up you know? should I wash on gentle and dry in the dryer? I'm not sure what to do. I don't want it to fall apart and I guess it doesn't have to be washed since it's going on the wall but i want it to look it's best :)

Is it made of cotton? Is it backed with a fusible? Did you do a satin stitch or blanket stitch around applique? If so, it should wash fine. A straight stitch around the edge might allow it to fray.

yes i used fusable adhesive and did a blanket stitch around each piece.

My thoughts are that even something made for the wall will eventually need to be washed due to dust and other things that we don't see until they are built up. You might as well wash it now and get the look you want and know now as well if you might have to go in and mend some areas.

Ditto  I wash everything when I am finished quilting it, unless it is for a customer and they are binding it.

i would wash and dry it gently. don't dry 100% in dryer. lay it flat to finish
