I either wash all or none, less chance of different amounts of shrinkage when you wash the finished quilt IMHO :D:D:D

check the subject area. this has been discussed pro and con many many times. Your head will be swimming by the time you read it. Having said that. If one color ran, better test all of them and wash the red enough to get all the color out or it will run over all your other colors.
The answer is in your wash basin.

I would. This is one reason I'm not buying so many precuts anymore. I want the option to wash if I have a bleed-y color.

I read where someone took a small square of each of the colors she was planning to use and sewed them applique style to a piece of white and washed it to see which ones ran. I think she ended up making the piece into a pillow after she was done using it for testing.

Also I'd use a color catcher even if you prewash. That way the dye doesn't come off and then redeposit onto the fabric (only to come off again the next wash).

if you think it might run it is always a good idea- and the red needs to be rewashed- and rewashed until it no longer runs- some never stop-
until they are a pale pink-reds are hard ones.
if you don't want to pre-wash all of your fabrics you should at least test for color fastness.
i've made many quilts that contain some washed and some not washed fabrics- has never caused any problems with the finished quilt- only when one of the not-washed fabrics wound up running after all-

thanks to eveyone. i didn't know to continue to wash. the red will be paired with white and pink. so I have to be sure the red doesn't run

I wash my reds in Dawn dish soap on HOT to see if it will run.. In a glass bowl. If it runs.. I do not use it.. Never worth using fabric that is iffy or that runs. all the work we put in our quilting.. nope..

good luck ! so sad to buy what will fade. you never know.. but Red.. seems to do that, brown too..

:(

AFter 40 plus years of quilting I now pre wash EVERYTHING. Fabric now days is less apt to fade than when I began, but I still pre wash and dry all fabric
