Do any of you pre-wash your batting? I never have and I've never had a problem. It seems like alot of trouble and like it would start falling apart or seperating in the wash? I have heard of putting it in the dryer prior to sandwiching it, to help fluff it up, have any of you done that?

Just the warm and natural and other needlepunched batt. It has about 3% shrinkage, and I don't care for the instant puckery look. I find it much easier to hand quilt after washing, too.

I don't really wash it - just fill the washer, spin it out (DO NOT AGITATE) and then toss it in the dryer.

I've never prewashed batting, but I am pretty new to quilting. All my lap quilts have been machine quilted and I do like the kinda puckery look, so it hasn't been a problem for me.

I like the puckery look too and have never washed batting. I never pre-wash my fabric either. I like the crispness of the fabric when sewing and the look after the finished product is washed.

Does anyone have a preference in batting? Brand, type, thickness?

I do like Cathe, just soak for 5-10 minutes in warm water and spin then dry, it makes it a bit thicker and it is easier to hand quilt but still draws a bit when you wash the quilt so it still gets that homey look.
This is warm and white or natural cotton, I don't know if it would make a difference in poly or not.

Lisa: I machine wash and dry my Warm and Natural. Works great for me, no downside. I even put a little bit (a couple of tsps.) of detergent in it.
