I too only prewash depending on the color or where I buy.
I agree it seems the reds and blues bought at a more expensive shop tend to bleed some. But most of the time nope.

am i the only one who finds it confusing and ironic that the more you pay for a hunk o'fabric the more likely it is that it needs to be prewashed?

wouldn't you think it should be the other way around? :hunf:

I always prewash all my fabric. I hand applique and don't want to be caught unprotected. lol Batiks I have purchased seem to run ( darker colors).

In some ways this discussion is so ironic - way back when the utility quilts were made from the "good" parts of worn out clothing, and the "batting" was worn out sheets that had been torn down the middle and the "better" parts were resewn so that part would be back in the center.

These fabrics had been washed and washed and washed. I doubt if there was much shrinkage from those fabrics!
