washing fabric for blouse

Hello I know this not about quilting. But I have some beautiful quilting fabric and want to make a blouse it is cotton should i wash it first and dry it i usually don't wash my fabric for my quills thank you

I would wash the fabric if making a blouse. You would sure hate to put all that time and effort making a blouse, and having it shrink even a little bit.

ok thank you grannie will to that and dry it

I agree. If you plan to wash the blouse after its made, definitely prewash the fabric.

Unless you never plan to wash your blouse. LOL

I have had fabrics shrink up to two inches in width and 1.5 inches in length. Usually in only one direction.

I agree with everyone too. Treat the fabric like you will the blouse. If you want to machine wash and dry the finished product so that with the fabric.

Believe it or not but back when I used to buy a lot of fabrics, my mind would go to how the fabric might look as a blouse so I'd buy at least 5 yds. just in case that's what I used it for plus enough to go into a quilt. Such beautiful fabrics out there and depending on where you live, you might not be able to find dress maker fabrics as easily.

It took me "a while" to realize that "quilting fabric" was the same fabric that my Mom used to make aprons, skirts, blouses, shirts, and dresses from!

Pattern

I was wondering what style blouse you had in mind. The “drape” of quilting fabric is somewhat stiffer than garment fabric I think. Indeed in fabric stores, it seems harder and harder to find it, IMO

This is a very good question/point.
