Wasted the day...

but at least I was successful! I went through a huge back log of quilt magazines looking for my Quiltmaker Nov/Dec 2012 issue. I knew I had prepared the pieces for the PP Polar Bear so it had to be in my sewing room somewhere, right? I finally found it inside a large Manila envelope with the paper pieces. Good grief what was I thinking? Now I am too exhausted to work on it.

amyjo 04-27-2013 04:19 PM

At least you found it so now you can sew on it tomorrow. Did you get rid of some of your old mags then? I have a lot I should go through too and take them into my friend's church. they quilt every week there. I am actually going to have 2 days to sew in between work. Training on Tuesday off to Fargo til Fri nite. Have fun with your polar bear.

Nammie to 7 04-27-2013 04:20 PM

I do that same thing - always put it someplace safe then can't find it when I want to use it! Glad you were able to find the pieces you were looking for - that helps.

DebraK 04-27-2013 04:42 PM

spending a day perusing quilt magazines is never a waste ;-)

I know what you meant. Glad you found it.

nvb50 04-27-2013 04:45 PM

I wasted the day by going out and buying a new washing machine. It has been acting up for some time, but died today.

LoisM 04-27-2013 05:27 PM

Can't tell you how many times I've done something like that. I made two quilts using the Yellow Brick Road pattern a few years back so I know I had the pattern; but could I find it when I wanted to make another one last month? No, of course not. So, I had to fork over another $8 for a new pattern.

quilterCDN 04-27-2013 05:42 PM

I had to pick up my machine that had been repaired. It was so beautiful that I stopped at a garden store, so there went the plans for sewing today. The flowers do look lovely.

Jingle 04-27-2013 06:10 PM

I had a very productive day. I caulked for 3-3-1/2 hours, got dressed, stripped the bed, washed mattress pad. Washed sheets, pillow cases and three loads of clothes. Swept half the floors, mopped the kitchen. Made homemade pizza, sew on some binding, put away clothes.
Tomorrow I will finish the other floors and laundry. I also hope to finish sewing the rest of the binding on my quilt so I can start another. Will be going to bed soon. I'm tired.

Where do you get the energy to do all of that?? God bless you. I know you're tired. Sweet dreams.

MacThayer 04-28-2013 12:17 AM

Don't consider it a wasted day. What you were doing was "Quilting Research". Who ever said quilting only encompasses actual sewing, cutting, etc? There are times when you must recharge your batteries, and I am willing to bet that a day spent going through old Quilting magazines has left you with tips, ideas and patterns you will use!

I don't consider anything "quilt related" to be wasted time. It's all a matter of perspective! ;-)!

ka9sdn 04-28-2013 04:47 AM

You sound pretty normal to me. Isn't it always that way when you put something away for later--never can fine it without tearing the whole place apart.

AliKat 04-28-2013 08:40 AM

Won't tell how many times that used to happen to me. Now I scan into my computer what I want to save. It is sooo much easier to look through a picture file - esp with a slide show - than searching where I put all the magazines and such.

An added plus, besides getting rid of the clutter - my quilting friends help me recycle those magazines.

Battle Axe 04-29-2013 02:53 AM

My work for the day is over and it's only 6:50 a.m. Bootsie and Mittens caught a mouse and kept it alive so they could play catch and release. The last time that happened it got away. This time I helped them disable it. It is dead now, but they are still playing with it. I don't want to discourage them from catching another one so I'm letting them play with it dead. They are having a great time. What ever else I do today, like go to work......will be gravy because I have done my work for today by killing the mouse.

Marcia yes that is Bootsie in my avatar.

jmoore 04-29-2013 03:17 AM

I was inspired to work and rake outdoors since the weather has been cooperative, but my projects were short lived when I accompanied my husband to the ER for 2 hours while he had chest x-rays for chest pain caused by a lingering cough from his previous diagnosis of pneumonia a couple weeks ago. The cough just won't go away. How I wish 'dI had a pile of magazines to go through while sitting in the waiting room. (argh)

cjaneky 04-29-2013 03:33 AM

I put my patterns and things i need to ''see'', when i need a pattern, in a gallon size zip lock bag, and it all goes in the same place...if not I would still be looking for them. It does make it easier to just go through one tote and know whatever it is , it has to be in there.

nhweaver 04-29-2013 03:36 AM

I just hate it when life intefers with quilting!!

Poakie 04-29-2013 03:37 AM

I'm glad I'm not the only one who do these things.

plainpat 04-29-2013 03:40 AM

If I plan to sew, can't look at sewing mags/books. Opening one mag means the day is shot :D

WOW that sounds more than productive, more like spring cleaning. I had to wash walls and clean&rehang pictures after remodel of bathroom and kitchen walls. that I class as my biggest cleaning job in a long time. Good luck on finishing up, hope you had a good nights rest.

tessagin 04-29-2013 04:49 AM

Because of the work I do, I have to keep good files. Get yourself an inexpensive file box, actually any box that you can put sorters labeled A-Z. You can start with A for applique and on down the line. I have mine in a large binder right now but will transfer to a clear file I already have. You can also to Office Depot or Office Max or staples. Any office supply store will do, They have hanging files that you can see through.

tessagin 04-29-2013 05:05 AM

jmoore I had a lingering cough for a long time over a year (almost 2). I was on Lisinopril for blood pressure. My doctor changed my script. I had the cough so bad at times that I could hardly talk without coughing. It affected my job. Every time I turned around, I was coughing with almost every breath. The script change made a big difference. Also, I have an upper denture that hasn't fit right from day one. If I use too much adhesive, it makes me cough. Almost all blood pressure medications side effect includes a persistent cough. My chest exrays all showed clear with no signs of pneumonia or anything else. I coughed so hard one day, I cracked 3 ribs. I have scoliosis (curvature of the spine) and believe me that didn't help. I rarely cough any more and am able to conduct business (on the phone a lot)and relax. A simple change of script may be all that's needed.

Love to waste a day doing quilty things!!!

OldHairTwister 04-29-2013 06:56 AM

Now that you've spent $8 on a new pattern, the old one is sure to turn up:p

Kathy Osterby 04-29-2013 08:35 AM

I started doing the same thing until I finally decided to put the pattern name, page etc. on the mag. cover. I collect Sunbonnet Sue patterns so when I find one I write the page # on front so I can find it again. Hope this idea helps.

So glad to hear I'm not the only one who does this. I once had to buy a replacement pattern for one I "put away someplace safe" and never did find.

oldtisme 04-29-2013 10:03 AM

I always keep a couple of quilting magazines in my truck that way if I go somewhere I have to do a wait I have a magazine to read, also read them while hubby is driving us on a trip. When I'm done with a magazine it then gets stored in my craftroom, seldom do I read a quilt magazine at home, it's usually always waiting somewhere or on a trip.

Well that's a bummer! I have seen directions to that online for free....about.com ar some such place. Maybe it wasn't the same pattern? So share your most recent quilt photo with us so we all can enjoy. :)

I can loose things I had 30 seconds ago

AliKat, I love that idea! I am going to start doing that right away. Thanks for the tip!

MargeD 04-29-2013 10:25 AM

Been there - done that more times than I would like to remember. I have been searching for my copy of Quick Quilts Feb/March 2010 as I want to make the Love Bugs quilt for my DGD. I know that it is probably in a very, very safe place, a I cannot find it. However, I went online and got the bonus quilt directions, spent part of a day trying to figure out how to make it fit a twin-size bed, then part of another day tracing the butterflies, dragonflies and hearts - then lo and behold this morning I am going through another stack of magazines and although I didn't find the magazine, I did find not one, but two traced sets on Wonder-Under ready to be ironed onto fabric. Needless to say I'm going to have plenty of patterns already traced no matter what size I make the quilt. Some days are like that. At least I do have the fabric for the quilt all ironed and ready to go to start the quilt. Her birthday is May 18, so I'm not sure I'll finish in time, but I'll try. Just remember in the world of quilters we are all one big sisterhood who can relate to one another.

Um....so you caulk in your birthday suit? I hope it was all indoor caulking. Lol!

Auntie Em 04-29-2013 05:15 PM

Well, at least that part is done!!! Onward and upward!!!

Cyn 04-29-2013 05:23 PM

I didn't do a thing besides getting the animals fed along with my husband fed. I kept falling asleep, never got dressed and just felt depressed all day for no reason. It was a dark rainy day and everytime i got up to do something, I'd end up back on the couch. Fell asleep 3 times sitting up! I hate those days and hopefully tomorrow, I will have all kinds of energy to get stuff done. I think you actually got a lot done even tho it may not have been what you wanted to do.

Scakes 04-29-2013 06:24 PM

Glad you found it. Enjoy working on it now. :)

1screech 04-29-2013 07:48 PM

Welcome to my world...seems I spend half my time searching for things that I have put in a safe place orthati had in my hand 5 minutes ago!

My time 04-29-2013 09:06 PM

Oh man welcome to my world. I've spent a good hour looking for a locker hook I bought few weeks ago. I can't find the darn thing anywhere. It can be very frustrating being me!!

petthefabric 04-30-2013 10:57 PM

When I find something in a magazine that I might want later, either I rip it out or photo copy it and put into a binder. That way they're all in 1 place.
