Has anyone used water soluable foundation for the applique. If so, what are your thoughts.

I don't see why it wouldn't work. It is a little expensive.

I bought a bolt of Wash-N-Gone interfacing at Wal Mart when it closed the fabric dept. It works great. I think JoAnns may have it. The price on the bolt is $1.67 a yard.

I tried it after seeing Sharon Schamber's Youtube demo. Bought the type from her dd's website, so would have the right stuff. I actually don't like it.

I have done quite a bit of machine applique using Harriet Hargrave's freezer paper method, using paper paste instead of glue stick to turn edges under, and I still prefer that method. It is faster for me, gives me a firmer edge to turn, and the resulting appliques have a much more perfect turned edge with less effort.

I went back to the freezer paper method, even though it requires removing the background fabric from underneath the appliques in order to remove the freezer paper, because I like the results better. My system for removing the freezer paper is really easy, so I don't mind spending a little extra time doing it. Turning the edges of the appliques over freezer paper is so much faster for me than trying to turn the edges over the soluble stabilizer, for me there is no time savings anyway.

Others may be handier than I am with the soluble stabilizer. I just didn't find it provided a sufficiently sturdy edge, so my turns were pretty sloppy looking compared to what I can do in a shorter amount of time with freezer paper.

I'm sorry, I've never used it. When I do applique I just mark my pattern on the material and needle turn.
