I would like to work on grandmothers flowergarden hexagons on my holiday. Cant make it four weeks without sewing...........

Now I have the idea to prepare the hexagons with watersoluble thread. Will that work in a country with 80% air humidity? Is there something else I had to look for as I never worked with it.
Thanks a lot.

I haven't either, but I bet someone here knows. I don't even know where to buy it.

Never heard of it! Y would u use it? Is it for basting?; good luck

granny_59 02-14-2011 03:22 AM

yes, for basting. Wouldnt it be nice not to have to remove the basting from "zillions" of hexagons?
The question is whether the thread is disoving only soaked in water or if air humidity might be a problem.

When you get done making them, put them in a zip lock bag with one or two or more of those little capsule type thingies that come in the pill bottles to keep the pills from drawing moisture. I have several in my wash a way thread to keep it dry. I hope I am explaining it correctly.

thanks Mary, thats a good idea! But sewing outdoors in this humidity wouldnt be a problem?

Instead of wash a way thread I just basted with regular thread and didn't back stitch or knot. The basting is easy to pull once I'm done. I pull the threads as soon as I've joined hexs to another (except for outside edges) so it is quick.

no...first off it will fall apart the first time you use steam on them...watersolube is just that..it washes away...so all your time making the hexagon would also wash away...and in that kind of humidity it would probably not even make it to the complete stash....its too high of moisture....I wouldn't attempt it..but again its up to you to attempt it...blessings
