Wave template

I have it in my mind that I need to move on from stempling and am looking for wave template ruler to mark some of my smaller quilts with. These will be quilted on my domestic machine. What wave ruler can you recommend me? Prefer one that is longer than 6 inches if possible. Thank you!

I have a wave ruler but it is only about 6" The rulers are designed by Amanda Murphy. They can be used on either DSM or LA.

Are you planning to FMQ with a quilting wave ruler and ruler foot? You really need the ruler foot if you are going to use the ruler. If you plan to straight stitch, you might consider quilting along the Frog wave tape instead.

Since you said you wanted a template to draw your quilting pattern, I'm wondering if something like https://www.amazon.com/Wave-Edge-The...4999943&sr=8-2 would be what you want. It appears to be 3" wide by 16" long, with two different waves. According to https://www.thewaveedgeruler.com/ it looks like there may be one that is 24" long.

I have an old June Taylor template that has a wave on one side and a scalloped edge on the other. It's meant for rotary cutting the edges of quilts, but I use the wave side to draw a wavy line that I later quilt with a walking foot. I mark additional lines offset to the first line to give it a random look.

OurWorkBench....I'd be interested in the 24" wave ruler, but the website doesn't have an order blank that I could find, only cell phone numbers and an e-mail address. I sent an e-mail to the LilyMarie website this morning. Hope to hear back from her today. Will let you know.

Tratan....The Frog Wave Tape that was suggested would be great if I felt it wasn't so expensive. It might work for mini quilts, but I'm wanting to do baby and lap quilts also. For someone who has tried the Frog Tape, did you keep using the same piece of tape but moving it to another position, or use multiple strips to mark your quilt?

Sew much quilting...Sew little time!!

I use the blue painter's tape. I have 2 widths, 1 inch and a wider one. I do reuse the same piece over and over when stitching. I haven't graduated to rulers, yet, but I practice. I like the longer one at Amazon.

I should have mentioned that, sorry. Looking this morning, I found one site that said discontinued. I found a couple others that are probably in NZ or Australia -
https://patchworkwithgailb.com/produ...edge-ruler-24/
and https://www.ozquilts.com.au/the-wave...-ozquilts.html
Then I found https://www.allbrands.com/products/6...dge-ruler-24in and https://www.keamasquilts.com/shop/c/...4-x8850864.htm

OurWorkBench...some of these sites are Australian, and with shipping the way it is currently I'd like to have it before 2025! Others have discontinued the ruler. Keamasquilts.com doesn't offer it on their websites under Notion/Templates. But once again I was able to send her an E-mail. We will see what happens!!

I found it by google search "Wave Edge" 24 ruler I searched for wave edge on Keamaquilts and it was the first one, then I went to drop down notions and on rulers & templates https://www.keamasquilts.com/shop/No...-Templates.htm and it was on the first page "Lily Marie The Wave Edge Ruler" The first time I went through all six pages. It doesn't have a picture and so missed it the first time.

ummm...I dunno....I have some 6-8 inch smaller rulers that I love to use on my longarm (well not exactly love, I would rather free motion than do ruler work) I had also bought longer rulers thinking that they would work better...about 18 inches...well, I found they actually were harder to use as you need to position the rulers fairly close to the foot and spaces you are actually stitching. I would think, the longer rulers might even be harder to work with on a DSM....I think for marking they may work well...but for actually stitching and doing ruler work...I think the smaller ones are a lot easier to use....Just my opinion.

Have you tried Sew Steady.com? If you're using a template (ruler) you need a ruler foot unless you plan on just tracing it. In that case it would be cheaper to find a plastic one to just trace.

It's true that the LilyMarie wave template has been discontinued in the 24" size. However I did get the e-mail address for LilyMarie and sent a note that I'm desperately searching for one. Her response was that she still has a few and will mail me one. Waiting for a PayPal invoice from her now. Thank everyone for your help in finding this ruler!!

I use the wave from time to time but use the pattern of the quilt as my guide and consider it a version of free motion. Never thought about using one. My results are "acceptable" to "hey, that's not bad". Which is just a tick under my level of meander and stippling. https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images...es/biggrin.png

Ohhh, I have been looking at her rulers. Have you used this one? I picked up my first quilting ruler last week (I got Slim by Angela Walters). I really liked the look of Amanda Murphy's Every Angle ruler, but it seemed a bit too long for using on a DSM. I am eyeing other rulers from her though. Is her wave ruler shorter? Her website doesn't say how long they are.

I bought two wave templates from HandiQuilter. One is for a 4” wave and is 8” long (two waves). The other is a 8” wave, and it is 8” long. I don’t like extra long rulers - they get away from me.

I have the Amanda Murphy Every Wave set. It's $55 to $60 for 6 different waves. That's a pretty good price!
