Wavy quilted panel

1 Attachment(s)
I don't often do panels, but I quilted one and the short edges are wavy, so it doesn't lie flat. Which means It won't hang properly. I haven't bound it, yet.
Any ideas on why this is?
How to get rid of it?

Thanks!

Watson

I suspect it wasn’t square to start with. I might try quilting piano key straight lines of quilting going out to the edges. Maybe the stitching lines might hold the edge stiff? You could ease in any extra fullness to puff between the keys?

Was it flat before it was quilted?

If so. the edges are not quilted - the center is -

i think the piano key quilting would take up a a lot of the " extra " waviness?

You may be able to block it.

Spray with a light mist of water and steam flat. Pin to the iron board and put something heavy on it to dry.

Stay stitch the edges once they are flat and straight.

Good luck!

I'm with Rhonda. Block it. Most award-winning quilters block their quilts before sending them in to shows. If your quilt is too big for the ironing board, you can pin it to the carpet to dry. Just make sure it's square when you stick the pins in.
