waxy marking crayon
Hello everyone - I have a waxy marking crayon that puts a whitish mark on your quilt top and it irons off. Not sure of the name/manufacturer as I bought it at a quilt show. I would like to purchase another one (or two) and can't find anything similar. I did find the Clover brand pen type but I want to find this waxy style... any ideas?
BTW, I am in Canada so a Canadian source would be even better! Thanks everyone! |
Wawak has these - https://www.wawak.com/cutting-measur.../#sku=ck1000wh
If you look at the bottom of the page on the Wawak site, you can change the region to Canada under where it says to request a catalog - it says to choose region US or Canada. They have other brands of wax tailors chalk too! I like Wawak - I order from them all the time. Great Customer service! |
I also found this on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Superior-Qual...A3HPQS1YHCBIBL
It is a third party seller - Sharp Sewing Supplies I changed my Amazon (US) to Canada and it still came up : https://www.amazon.com/Superior-Qual...A3HPQS1YHCBIBL |
I found the product !!!!
- it's called the "Ultimate Marking Pencil" Buy Marking Pencil Online - Full Line Stencils – Full Line Stencil Store The cost to ship to Canada from their website is prohibitive but it is available on Amazon in Canada... I like to use this when I have a quilt on the longarm and I decide (finally) what I want to quilt - I can mark with this on an already mounted quilt where other marking pens etc won't work. I have always had good luck with it ironing off. |
I know I have seen them here in Canada.
I think I might even have one. But where I got it? I have no clue! Perhaps go back to whom you bought it from at the quilt show? Whoops ... just saw that you found it on Amazon. For others ... https://www.amazon.ca/Ultimate-Marki...s%2C149&sr=8-5 However, did you notice it is shipped from outside of Canada? Which could mean additional charges might apply. Now that you have the name etc. try other online and IRL stores here in Canada! Or if you are willing to share where you are, then others may give you some suggestions. |
There are 2 basic kinds of chalk markers. The first kind is designed for quilting cottons and will usually brush off or wipe off with a damp cloth. The second kind is called tailor's chalk, it's designed for marking on wool suits. The wax melts with a hot iron and blends into the wool. Be careful if you get a tailor's chalk and test it out on your quilting cotton first to see if the wax will blend into the fabric. Sometimes it will stain.

I was reading this yesterday and thought I have one of those !! I found it and used it today. I think I have acquired everything quilty. I believe I bought that at the Houston Festival and think it came from the stencil booth. Stencil companies might be the place to look. Good luck.

Second thought -- It might have come from the booth that sold the Pounce chalk and pad.

I have been in many, many stores within driving distance (and beyond, when travelling in Ontario) and never seen this marking crayon anywhere. I did see that it ships from outside Canada and there may be other charges etc... The original I bought in Houston at the International Quilt Festival and while I would like to go there again, I'm not sure I will.... so I likely will resort to ordering from Amazon...
thanks to everyone who tried to help! Before ordering from Amason, you might want to call Quilt Source in Georgetown. They import and then wholesale to many LQS' across Canada. If they carry the product, perhaps they would tell you whom they sell it to? Good Luck! |
