The Way Back machine...

1 Attachment(s)
My sister and I have been talking about making this quilt for years. We recently rediscovered the pamphlet where we saw the pattern originally,(circa 1991) but now are reminded that the pattern isn't there; just a short review of the book where the pattern can be found. What to do? Ask my quilting buddies for help...The pattern is"Brown Cats" from Quilts To Share by Janet Kime. No publication date but it's probably 1991. The photo is the cover of the pamphlet and the pattern in question. It's simple and I'm sure we could make a template easily enough, but we would like the pattern if we can find it. Thanks to one and all for any input you can offer

This pattern is in The Cat's Meow quilt book, by Janet Kime, That Patchwork Place. I checked and Amazon has it and there's 6 up for bid on ebay.

Yep, The Cat's Meow book. I have it, too.

Absolutely The Cats Meow by Janet Kime. In the book she did it all in homespuns. The pattern is great in any fabric combos from scrappy to coordinated. Here is a link to one I quilted for a client in bright scrappy cat fabrics:

And here are assorted pics I posted of quilts I did out of her book (and a Debbie Mumm cat pattern that was very similar):

If you love cats and quilts this book is a must have IMHO. I have it and have made several quilts out of it and have a few that are ongoing UFO's. She also another great one called Christmas Cats and Dogs. Both great books. Her patterns are easy to follow with lots of pics and clear concise directions for speed piecing techniques.

Nice pattern. I made this one: http://www.ellensquiltcreations.com/...8f_200x200.jpg for my DD. It's a Pam Bono design. http://www.ellensquiltcreations.com/...category_id=44

Check out Alibris.com for the book - they're usually much cheaper than anywhere else.

I have the Quilts to Share book. I bought it for the house block quilt on the cover. Amazon has used copies for $1 - $3.

I posted once how to use the Way Back Machine for finding no longer available on line patterns and the moderator promptly deleted it. LOL.

Why?? That would have been a good idea!

A lot of the fabric companies that post free patterns, delete them once the fabric lines have been discontinued. (Probably so that they don't get bombarded with questions from people who are still trying to find the fabric.)

'Cause you know, even though the fabrics are no longer available, the pattern may still be very usable!

A scrappy cat quilt is on my To Do list as well - I will be using this pattern but without the 10" by 2" strip on the side.

This pattern looks like it would be easy enough to duplicate. It looks like it's just squares and half-square triangles. Try it on a sheet of grid paper.

Thanks for all these ideas. Sure, I like cats, but I have basenjis, known as the dog for people who like cats.
I have a folder on my computer titled 'Basenji maybe' and it contains many many cat patterns.
All I have to do is change the tail to a curly one, and I have a basenji!

I am so bad. I had to go buy this book. I got it on ebay for less than $4.00. I love cat quilts even though I am a dog owner. I do have an old orange tabby cat.

jcrow 06-16-2012 10:53 AM

And I just bought Quilts to Share for $1.00 on Amazon. That is the book I think I will love!! I don't own a lot of books. Just started buying them recently. I have some my dear sister left me when she died, but they are very old. I have less than 10 books that I have bought. I know a lot of you own quite a few books and I think it's a good thing to have quilt books. So, I'm starting my collection slowly but surely.
