can I retire???? that would solve all my problems!!

butterflies5518 01-16-2013 11:46 AM

I am motiviated to sort/trim my scrap basket (almost done). Then I read that you should make a list of 10 quilts you would like to do. When one is finished add the next, never more than 10 on your list. I have put together 5 quilt kits so far and with a limit of only 10 I feel less stress with trying to keep up with what to do next. Sorted all magazines and vowed not to print any more patterns from the internet. I am also on a no fabric buying till my 10 wips are finished - I am on day 16! Awesome!

fireworkslover 01-16-2013 12:30 PM

I've been spending a lot of time watching videos online. I am learning things, so not all that time is wasted. But I do feel like a slug at the end of the day. I've a major project to get fmq and then 2 others in the planning stages of what to do, how to make this, since both are new methods for me. I do have a book to follow for each one, so hopefully I'll not encounter any problems.

There must be something in the air. The last 2-3 weeks I have been attempting to clean and organize my sewing area, as well as clearing up some UFOs. I am nearly finished making the blocks from last year's Craftsy BOM - got behind when I fell, had neck surgery and 4 + months of rehab learning to walk and use my hands again. I was so proud of myself when I was able to drive again, so I wasn't a prisoner in my own home - my husband can't drive any more, and I've been motivated to finish that BOM and several other UFOs; so I'm making a dent and at least once a week I take a plastic tote of fabric, empty it and refold and reorganize, making more room in my totes so I can reduce the number of totes of fabrics I have in my "STASH" (too much fabric to say I have a "stash"). Keep up the good work and I'll try to keep up with your posts.

SandiGrove 01-16-2013 02:34 PM

Sewingsuz, don't touch that furniture with you're hand. It'll show you haven't dusted in a while. I don't touch mine. And I dare anyone in this house to do that. Besides, it might scratch the furniture.!

meanmom 01-16-2013 08:22 PM

I'm in. I have been trying to stick to my new rule for the new year, that I have to finish 2 UFO's to start a new project. So far so good. Of course the year has hardly started. Time for bed. The alarm seems to go off awfully early in the mornings.

Silver Needle 01-16-2013 08:26 PM

I'm in. I'd get farther if I didn't have boot on foot for bone spur/Achilles tendon problem.

Minister 01-16-2013 09:56 PM

I'm in. Trying to convert my daughter's room to my sewing room. Thanks for the motivation. Hoping to finish soon and get sewing. She just got her own house. Whoopie!!!!!

homecaregiver 01-17-2013 05:31 AM

AllAboutScraps 01-17-2013 08:41 AM

So 4 days down and I've sewn every morning. Little steps!

mustangquilts 01-17-2013 10:55 AM

I am in. I finished a table topper yesterday except hand sewing the binding. I will do that on my next night shifts at work. Today I am finishing the machine applique on another table topper and hopefully machine quilt it tomorrow. Yes it is time to get these done. Once I get these down I will start machine quilting larger quilts that I need to finish.

delma_paulk 01-17-2013 11:01 AM

Hello!

My name is Delma and I am addicted to quilting!!

#1piecemaker 01-17-2013 04:34 PM

Only two more days to go! I'm anxious to see how everyone has done. I'm still on track and accomplishing quite abit compared to what I have been getting done. Let's keep going!!!

Iraxy 01-17-2013 08:04 PM

I'm in. I have started 2013 motivated. I went to get a doctor appointment after putting it off for months (all right, my DH got me in the door.) I started an exercise program at the Y (water aerobics) this week. Need to start working on my sewing room so I can sew. I can do it...I can do it.

Pat625 01-17-2013 08:15 PM

I have most of my UFO's together..organized before I moved 2 weeks ago...Right now hand quilting a top I had done..I also joined the fabric moratorium, and will be organizing sccraps to make scrappy quilts to use these up!

Pilgrim 01-17-2013 09:23 PM

My problem is I sew continuously. I have to force myself to clean the house, wash the floors, cook meals, do housework in general. It's just my husband and I now so things don't really get dirty, but they sure get dusty. I can sew all day and listen to audio books. I have lots of book work to do as well for our farm, and two other businesses and I hate not sewing. At least I am never bored. If YOUR bored stay away from me. LOL

Oh heavens !! No, I'm not bored!!! I just have so much to do and so little time to do it!! But, I am disorganized , I guess. I put things off and leave them for later. I get into a slump every now and then. But, I'm never bored!!! I think its housework!!! I hate housework!!!

terri bb 01-19-2013 01:36 PM

okay i first want to thank you for trying to get me motivated by having me sit and read SEVEN pages of posts. now that the cracker tube is empty and the tea is cold, my iron has automatically shut off and im getting a butt-cramp i think i can swirl this here lazy chair around back to the machine again. that whole post about seven years the dust not getting any thicker? THAT made my day! count me in, ill post a pic on here every saturday to show you all what i have gotten done. got to keep me on my toes! thank you much for the most enjoyable read :)

Sew Freak 01-26-2013 08:57 AM

Ok everyone, how are things going? I finished one of my son's shirts and I've been working on scrappy blocks. I've got quite a few scraps that I want to start making the blocks so I don't get overwhelmed and try to do them all at once. I seen (I think it was here on QB not really sure) where someone shared a link on 'making' material from scraps. Scraps were sewn together then cut into manageable squares. So I've made some scrappy sq's where they are somewhat color cordinated, and I'm also working on the 'making' of a square - that one is kinda fun to do! So, I'd like to hear what you all have accomplished so far!

earthwalker 01-26-2013 09:18 PM

Well....got some books/mags out of the house and passed on to Mum's craft group. Spectacle case still not done...but sorting/de-cluttering of my workspace just about complete....have to lay out my DIL quilt top, so I can get some sort of inspiration to commence the back. Really need to get some cutting of blocks underway in an effort to reduce the number of bags stacked everywhere. Trying to do a little each day - no matter what. GFG is an ongoing thing, managing to do quite a bit of handpiecing every night. Trying to keep my garden alive in this heatwave....so far nothing has turned up its toes, so worth persevering with the handwatering. Stay on track fellow quilters....even 15 minutes a day will be worth it.

sak658 01-26-2013 09:59 PM

I'm IN...just finished up one t-shirt quilt....first one...so ok..now on to the second one...well that one is not getting done that quick..had to clean up and get rid of some clutter myself...dust and vacumn the sewing room...Where or where does all that fuzz come from....??not by cutting fabric ...NO...just little dust bunnies aworking at all times..got the t-shirts cut and fusible ironed on....now...Oh NO..friend called to come help her longarm quilts for customers...2 days now gone....ok back to the t-shirts...No...gotta check the computer see what's going on on the QB....now its midnight..guess I better get in the bed..Church tomorrow...maybe just maybe I can sew tomorrow evening...ssshhhh...I said maybe...sure would like to go to Hancocks..see what they had on sale...or maybe I might get the t-shirt blocks started...but that's.after I check the QB..........Happy Quilting everyone...

AllAboutScraps 02-13-2013 10:16 AM

So how is everyone doing? I have gotten all my blocks quilted and the first border. Just have the second border to do and I can bind. I'm 3 weeks behind what I had planned....but it has been hectic and I did have to spend a full weekend digging out from the Blizzard of 2013 aka Nemo. Trying to get back on track. Would love to hear how everyone else is doing.

Sew Freak 02-14-2013 07:25 AM

Hi All, my scrappy quilt has quite a few sq's now....but so many more to go....I've been making 1/2 sq. tri. and playing w/those. Need to make some 1/4 sq's....been somewhat busy trying not to let the dust bunnies take over and also helping DH make an 'ant' pantry.... that what I call it....remember the 'grasshopper and the ant'? My shelves are kinda bare but we'll be doing more canning this year....can't wait! Well, GD is here now....gotta go feed her.

#1piecemaker 02-14-2013 07:43 AM

I'm almost ready to put my drunkard path quilts together. I have quilted 2 more quilts on the machine. I am almost finished with my entry in the Miller Bowie Quilt Show that is coming up in April. I would show you what I'm doing but I want it to be a surprise!! I might break down and show it later. Gotta make a few minor adjustments and then get it reay for quilting! All in all, I am proud of what I've accomplished since I started this thread.

earthwalker 02-15-2013 09:37 PM

I managed to piece the last hexagon block for my GFG WIP....now have to lay them out and number them and do the three hex joining pieces...Still practicing FMQ on the chair throw...have completed 2.5 rectangles....it's not great, but I can see improvements in subsequent rectangles....Had a power outage and a run of extremely hot days...so energy levels have been flagging, but I'm not giving up. Too much to do...it's good reporting in on this thread, keeps me going. De-cluttering bug is still biting so that's a bonus too.

DOTTYMO 02-15-2013 11:29 PM

Sorry cant join as I must finish the baby quilt as baby was born yesterday a girl called Lili- Mae.

AllAboutScraps 02-17-2013 07:10 AM

Plan for today - as soon as I log off the computer - Finish the border quilting on my Strip Pineapple and start the binding. Planning on doing the hand work as I sit with my DH watching a movie this evening. THEN I will finish piecing my Pie in the Sky.

Happy Quilting everyone!

AllAboutScraps 02-18-2013 08:02 AM

Update to above. I actually did it - finished quilting the Strip Pineapple, have the binding set for hand sewing - as well as started. AND, I started the sashing of my Pie in the Sky. Good day!

SouthPStitches 02-18-2013 08:12 AM

If we all keep cozy in our sewing room, being productive we'll get through the long weeks left of winter and have some lovely quilts to show for it. I keep on pushing myself not to lose my quilting mojo as cabin fever is trying hard to set in.

reneaunoel 02-18-2013 08:31 AM

During my "Christmas Vacation", I pieced a Disappearing 9 patch for a friend's first grandchild. That was after driving 2500 miles to visit D & SIL in Alabama. Got home, purchased a 2' x 4' adjustable leg table, setup at "child's table height" have finished quilting (pebble stipple all over) and actually gave it to my friend at end of January. Speed record for me! That table made all the difference. Am now working on finishing 2nd maternity top for my daughter, she's in her first trimester and being slender, not too many of her tops are going to last long! waiting for the knit fabric I've ordered, will be making her some more tops and capri pants.

I think my physical comfort made all the difference in my motivation!

Good luck to all. And this quilting board is an awesome place to refresh, recharge and share. Thank you all!

carolstickelmaier 02-18-2013 08:41 AM

Count me in..Lord knows I need a little push. Not been very motivated since getting sick the beginning of Nov...Been through URI, flu, pneumoni and infected tooth. Now behind 30 or more quilts to be quilted for charity and three quilts I have started for next Christmas. They will be very involved and need to have time to concentrate on them and them only. Also am baby sitting grandaughters new puppy while she is in school or at athletic activities...I must have a hole in my head.........

nellybelle 02-18-2013 08:44 AM

Does that mean there won't be a sale of fabric's? Just teasing!!!!!
But I think I will join you in giving myself a motivational pep talk and get busy on some of the projects that are all over my sewing room/bedroom.

carolstickelmaier 02-18-2013 04:31 PM

Well so far today I managed to sandwich and machine quilt five toddler size charity quilts and machine sew the binding on (friend will do the hand sewing for the binding) also took grandaughter and friend to lunch and I am the lady with the puppy and glue mess...got that cleaned up to..Now for supper and a little rest. Tomorrow to be another long day puppy sitting and trying to sew. Wish me luck. I'm on a roll and hope I don't have to stop.

monkicat 02-19-2013 01:58 AM

I'm in. Decided this was the year to get some UFOs done. Just two days home from surgery with six weeks recovery ahead of me, so all I can do is work on hand piecing the last of my double wedding ring melons, and then piece the entire top. When I am allowed and able to lift things, I can out my quilt back in the hoop and finish hand quilting it.
I haven't taken stock on all UFOs, just selected a few that I want to work on this year and complete. The focus will be on quilts that have to be quilted and bound. So no fabric buying because its not needed. Then there are four quilt projects that I will be working on. The rest will wait in line......it feels good to have a short list to work on!
Other than that, I have reduced computer time, using my computer as a tool and less a place to hang out. I answer emails straightaway, usually in the morning and then I'm done for the day. I love my iPhone and iPad, but I put them aside and have learned not to grab them at every blip or beep - as a matter of fact, I've turned those off. Being in front of the TV means having sewing in my hands, or it serves as a visual radio while hand quilting. Also, I have a long standing habit of sewing while on the phone or using Skype to talk to friends so I remain productive while catching up. I'm also avoiding the fairs and quilt events, leaving that to next year.
These are all things that help me be more productive and joining you all will help even more!

janceejan 02-19-2013 05:00 AM

Getting over a bad bout of broncitis (sp?) and asthma, steriods and antibiotics. No sleep so you would think time to quilt, but cant get mind to settle. Tried cuttin some strips, not a good combo - rotary blades and the shakes, so put that away...lol. Did manage to do some piecing on my DD white on white quilt. Don't know which is worse - black to sew on or white/white. Have so much trouble deciding on the right side. Plan on bordering it today and maybe sandwiching it. Depends on energy and concentration levels. Good luck in our self appointed paths today....

AllAboutScraps 02-19-2013 08:51 AM

My sewing machine decided to quit this am. I thought the thread had jumped but I have rethreaded and it still won't stitch a seam. May have to take it to the repairman. But I still am working on the handsewing on my Strip Pineapple. I hope to have it complete by the end of the week.

Boy we have ambitious ladies on this board. I just hope to finish the items I have started and organize my fabric. No more buying fabric this year. I have plenty to work with. :)
