As i posted this morning, i walked past the mess in my kitchen and spent most of the day sewing! My 5 yr old grandson wanted a "sleep mat" to use while watching football with his Dad so i got out the material and had it finished by 1:00!
The pic didin't come out that well but i included it anywhay. I use 2 fabrics 1 1/2yds each side and sewed in a pillow into the top. I quilted the squares every 5 inches so it will hold up in the washing machine. After relaxing at the machine today i am ready for the 4 little ones to invade the house tomorrow. I hope you all had a great day too!

That is really cool. I would have never thought of sewing a pillow into it. My DD wants to know where you got the cars fabric from? She is making a quilt for her boyfriend with mator as the main character.

I found that fabric at Joann's about a month ago.

I got two different "Cars" fabric at Wal-Mart a few months ago. Don't know if they still have it or not.

I would like to see his eyes when you show it to him! He will love it. Great job, and quick.

I need one of those good days sewing. I have been doing a lot of applique, and now there will be a lot of Dr. appts for DH, so I can take it along. I figure I have 13 more hours to put into this top, then I can start thinking about the quilting. Now that's really exciting.

Great idea sewing the pillow in. He'll love it.

A whole project in one day - that is a great accomplishment!

Gotta ask, how in the heck did you sew a pillow into it? Did you actually stitch through the pillow? Or maybe it is too early in the morning for me.LOL

Hi Carol: I just laid out a triple folded piece of batting on the bottom fabric and covered it with the top. Then pinned in place all around and stitched that first. Then did the squares. It was a "figure it out as i go" project.

clem55 08-27-2010 05:21 AM

I knew it was too early for me. I thought you meant you actually put a real pillow inside!!LOL

Quilting D 08-27-2010 05:29 AM

Don't feel bad Carol. I wondered the same thing. I'm glad you asked.

This is really cute. Did you make a sandwich - fabric, batting, fabric? Then sew about the four sides - leaving a hole to turn the fabric right side out? Did you use one of those small, travel size pillow? As you can tell, I am interested in making one. Thanks!

twinkie 08-27-2010 02:33 PM

They also have Lightening McQueen fabric at Wal-Mart

Stitchnripper 08-27-2010 03:00 PM

really cute. Probably will be very much used and loved.

I laid out all the fabric, then folded batting(3x)for the pillpw section and laid it between the layers, pinned it in place and stitched around all 4 sides to make the "pillow" stay in place. Then i stitched the squares and put on a binding of left over material. I hope that helps. They are super easy to make and they fold up for easy storage.
