Well, I'll be darn.

The first step in the pattern was to cut 92 green squares -- go across the page and it say size 4 1/2" squares. Fine. I cut the 92 squares 4 1/2" squares. Then I notice the size of 6 1/2" squares. Ugggh, the 4 1/2" squares are for the wallhanging size not the full quilt size I want to make. Oh well, it's a great fun pattern I think I'll make both sizes. It's this one:

The reverse is the back of Santa.
Any one made this?

It is a cute pattern and you have a jump on making the wall hanging!

rrhaigh 07-12-2012 06:56 PM

What a darling pattern. Thanks for sharing. Your wall hanging will be beautiful.

Rag Santa - very cute! We will look forward to seeing the quilt & wallhanging :)

One to keep and one to gift! Now you just need to decide which will be which.

LLWinston44 07-12-2012 09:56 PM

That is super cute!! A wall hanging will be cute but bummer since that means you'll have to get more fabric... Unless you have it stashed. Lol

fien777 07-13-2012 12:39 AM

hahah I once cut about 300 60 degree diamonds, when I turned the page of the patternbook it turned out they had to be 45 degrees.....fortunately I had enough fabric.
Nice pattern and you started well in time with it!!!

BellaBoo 07-13-2012 12:30 PM

I'm using fabric from my stash. All shades and prints of greens, blues, reds, and I'm adding golds too. What better way to then a rag quilt to use up fabric and these patterns are not boring at all.

JENNR8R 07-14-2012 03:10 AM

I'm afraid that I'd be thinking a word a bit stronger than "darn." :D

fayefromfla 07-14-2012 03:37 AM

great attitude...it is a really cute pattern..can't have too much Santa!!

AnnT 07-14-2012 03:54 AM

I like that pattern...how cute!

Latrinka 07-14-2012 04:23 AM

Awe, it's too cute!

MaryAnnMc 07-14-2012 05:09 AM

Well, look at it this way... if there are any problems with the pattern, you'll have them all figured out by time you get to the full-size version!

Lol, Lemons from Lemonade. Great tip, always read the complete directions before cutting. I am GUILTY of that offense also. Neat pattern. Thanks for sharing.

Use your smaller squares and make the bigger quilt by adding to it. more blue background, then red and white alternating squares and the border? Or when making more background you could make HST pine trees next to Santa and/or his presents bag. Well, it's a cute pattern.

heidikins 07-14-2012 05:58 AM

Oh man, don't you just hate it when you do things like that? Frustrating to say the least. But your alternative is great! If you make two and don't feel like keeping the wall hanging maybe it would be a cute baby quilt for a little one for Christmas.

That's adorable!

Grandma Peg 07-14-2012 06:54 AM

That's too bad sometimes patterns are not written very well. Good luck

caspharm 07-14-2012 11:40 AM

It's very cute. Glad you can appreciate having both.

KathyPhillips 07-14-2012 12:17 PM

That is why they often say, "Read all pattern instructions before starting this project."!!!

I think it will look very cute as a wall hanging! After you get done, then you can decide if you want to make a larger one. It's one of the cutest rag quilts I've seen. I saw they have a snowman also that's quite cute, too. Have fun making it. Thos rag quilts are pretty fun to put together. And no quilting involves!! Yippee!!!!

Momma_K 07-14-2012 12:46 PM

Cute!! Christmas in July!

If you want quilt size, go ahead and make the wall hanging size and make big borders.

twinkie 07-15-2012 02:32 AM

That is a cute pattern. Good luck

Guess there is something to be said for the advice of, "Always read the entire set of directions before you start cutting." lol

But who wants to be delayed by reading instructions when they are so excited to get started:o) That will be a great quilt and wallhanging!

JoanneS 07-15-2012 07:44 AM

Just think of it as a head start on a Christmas gift!

nstitches4u 07-15-2012 01:26 PM
