Well, I'm going to be different :)

I actually like the new forum.

It has pros and cons, as does anything, but there are several things I like about it, and am going to list them.

When I was sending a Private Message(and people really should make sure they aren't over the 500, I had 2000 stored up) It auto saved, as does when you are posting in a topic. That is a really awesome feature, I don't have to worry that my time spent typing this will be lost like I normally do on a message board.

More specialized forums. Now we actually have a sewing machine forum, and a lot more specifics. Makes it easier when I have a question!

I actually think that in some ways it's more attractive. It's not quite as plain.

All of the different things I can now add to my profile, and view on others. It's a lot of fun!

Yes, I could come up with some cons now, but I'm not going to. There are quite a few other posts listing that, and I
applaud the person who started the "one thing" topics.

Thanks QB staff for all you do!

Well, I'll add that the board is growing on me. I'm learning my way around. I just found today at the top of each thread when you open it you can click on the thing that says, go to unread posts.

EasyPeezy 11-04-2011 01:05 PM

The polling feature is quite neat. Someone just used it to poll with or without sashing.
At least you don't have to go count how many said yes or no. It does it for you.

I haven't been able to spend as much time on here and I would like, but so far, I have nothing to complain about either. I know the changes were done in good faith and once we all learn to use it (and find all of its whistles and bells!), we'll probably all be grateful for the changes. It will just take time to sift through all of the new terminology and find where everything is located. Still love it here and still love the caring, helpful people... We'll make it even bigger and better than before!

LyndaOH 11-04-2011 01:10 PM

I really like the Visit First Unread link. To me that seems like the easiest way to make my way around the board. If it's a thread I've posted to I'll see the green arrow on the envelope in the list of threads and then I know I can easily check if there are responses.

I liked the new look from the start and as I check out different areas I'm finding lots of neat things to explore.

And by the way, I like different!

garysgal 11-04-2011 01:32 PM

I admit, I do like it. The background color doesn't seem so glaring like it did before. I think in time, we will adjust to it and it will seem like it always was like this. I hope so anyway.

DebraK 11-04-2011 01:49 PM

I like it too. I only really read, on a daily basis, 3 of the forums from the previous board, so no big loss like others are commenting on, but a lot of new improvements for me.

kpelletier83 11-05-2011 06:04 PM

I love the new look. Still checking everything out. I still hadn't figured out the old board so I maybe it will be easier for me.

Mitch's mom 11-05-2011 07:13 PM

I really like it. The background doesn't bother me. I have my monitor brightness set at medium. This may help some of you with glare issues. Out of the box, monitors are set pretty bright.

my only wish, and the wish of many others, is for a link for 'Today's Posts'; Vbulletin software offers it and it would resolve the missing 'Recent Posts' link we all miss from the other forum.

patimint 11-05-2011 07:24 PM

Now that I have been brave enough to play around with it, it really is pretty nice. Just learned how to retrieve my book marks, now if I could just learn to book mark some of the threads that I want to save. I will learn it just takes a little time. The first couple of days, I hated it, but now I really do like it.

Camping Angel 11-05-2011 07:49 PM

Suits me fine! Lots of little "extras". I just found a place to view all my previous posts.

meanmom 11-05-2011 07:49 PM

growing on me

I was really hating the new forum at first. I am having trouble finding things that i usually read. I don't understand how all these people are finding all these things. I am slowly finding things. I will give it a few weeks and see how it is.

hpylady 11-05-2011 09:30 PM

You know what, now that you all have mentioned about the background color, I can't even remember what the background color looked like. lol! Well, we will get used to the new look and changes, people, please give it a chance and don't leave us. Repetitions makes it easier, as in everything else we have to learn. After we learn, we sit back and wonder, why was it so hard to me.

quilterella 11-06-2011 03:09 AM

I really like the fact that when you are replying to a post, the original post is right above where you are typing, so you don't have to flip back and forth to make sure you are answering correctly. I can read the original and answer it at the same time...love it...love it...love it.

stitchengramie 11-06-2011 03:13 AM

I am beginning to like it also. I like how more organized the the board is. I am still learning my way around the board thou. I feel like I am on a treasure hunt.

SamSew 11-06-2011 03:30 AM

I love the new format of the board, still finding some great discoveries as I wander around. But found where the bookmarks are also.

twinkle 11-06-2011 03:46 AM

As well as the things already mentioned, I like that you can hide peoples signatures and the email you get for new pm's you can read the pm without having to come to the board.

Something I've not used yet, but I think will come in handy is being able to change how you view a thread to hybrid, sometimes I love the pattern of a quilt someone posts a pic of in the first post, but if the thread is a long one I have to go through every page to see if someone else asks and they mention whats the pattern is called, with hybrid you can quickly scan through the love its etc to see if the poster posts again.

bambiquilts 11-06-2011 05:55 AM

I like it too!

lfletcher 11-06-2011 05:58 AM

Thanks for your post. I am still learning my way around, but I'm sure I'll get there. I was appalled by how nasty some of the posts were from people at the beginning who didn't like the changes. I'm glad to see that now the posts are turning more positive.

ywoodruff5 11-06-2011 09:00 AM

The board becomes more "comfortable" every day. Kind of like acquiring a taste for a new food which soon becomes one of your favorites. Besides, I would be in serious withdrawal without the board - ask me how I know this.....lol.

grammy Dwynn 11-06-2011 09:20 AM

Yes, we all are 'learning'.

We had to learn: remote controls for tv's, vcr's, dvd's; some of those high fangled sewing machines; cell phones; etc, etc.

Sometimes it is how you look at things - Is your glass half empty or half full? Look for the positive not for the negative. IMHO negative gives me grey hairs and I don't need any more of those. hehehe

MistyMarie 11-06-2011 09:24 AM

I think we will all have one or two things we miss from the other board. I miss being able to easily see which swaps are still open on the HOME page. However, I too like all the features this board offers. I also like the new chat. It feels more like it belongs. With all new things, it takes time, but the more I play, the more I like. THANKS to the developers for all their hard work and effort to make this board better.

vintagemotif 11-06-2011 09:31 AM

I love this new board too! Get to customize your profile page, have a album, layout is about the same, I can select hide signatures, and more. I love folks signatures, but some folks' signatures are longer and larger than their posts.
So when I look at their profile page I read their signatures. Love the save post features while typing post. Like the hover the post and up pops the first sentence of the post. Love seeing how many have posted and how many have viewed. Each day I find more features to like.

Lori S 11-06-2011 09:47 AM

I am liking it more every day. At first I felt like I had been thrown in the lake/pool with out a clue as to how to swim... But I am dog paddling my way around... ! Granted I may never be in the Board Olympics ..but I m getting to the deeper end of this pool , and it's not a bad place. Some cool things to play with !

Michellesews 11-06-2011 09:49 AM

All things, when we are unfamiliar with them, are a little uncomfortable, but with time and patience, we can always find the good in everything....I like it and it is getting easier to navigate as I use it. I feel that some folks did not give it a fair chance before becoming frustrated...hopefully they will come back and try again.
Michelle

Now that the shock is a few days old I am finding things I wished for on the original -like I can now go directly to the next topic without going back to the heading (arrows at bottom of postings) and like Quilterilla I love being able to see the post I'm responding to. .And deciding to find something I do like each day helps. The white background has become easier on my eyes today.I am positive I will figure out all the new stuff.
