I would rather use a machine, you could make several more and not have to worry about them coming apart. Oh well, your time, not mine.

Just FYI, even a very inexpensive sewing machine can be used to piece quilt tops together. It sure makes it faster and easier than hand piecing. In the US we can find lots and lots of used sewing machines through yard or garage sales, online auctions or listings, etc. Best of luck to you!! Be careful...the quilting bug bites and you'll be hooked!! :-)

Unless I'm in a hurry to get something finished by a deadline, I really enjoy handpiecing. It's very relaxing, easier to be accurate, and portable.

I hate to disillusion anyone but as a long time hand stitcher I can tell you that hand piecing can be just as sturdy and fun as machine stitching. Get several different sized betweens needles to see what "fits" you best. I use hand quilting thread to piece and I use a very fine #12 between needle.. they are very tiny and probably not the best for a beginning stitcher.. so try around a 9 or 10 to begin with and go from there. most of all.. ENJOY. Machine stitching is fine but as mom-6 says hand piecing is very relaxing ..and it's so portable!!
