Doesn't the price have to do too with how much the guide has to pay for that person, all the fees, etc. How many people are coming, etc? That could be why it costs so much. Pay for the air fair, lodging, food, etc for the teacher (famous) and divide that by how many people are coming, etc. I think that is how they do it. Maybe the price isn't so high. IF I wanted to see them I would go for that price.

I went to a Bonnie Hunter all day workshop. WAAAAY less than what you have quoted.

I've taken classes with Eleanor Burns, Kaye England, Mattie Rhodes, to name a few, and never paid that much.

Edit to add: Oh yeah, and a weekend retreat with Jenny Doan that cost less than $350.

Too rich for my blood regardless of how I felt about the instructor. Can I afford that fee/cost? Yes. Is it that valuable to me? No.

Sometimes it's about doing something fun. If you can afford it and want to try it I would say go for it. How often do you get this chance. It's probably cheaper than traveling to a quilt festival or show. It's wonderful to be in a class with other quilters.

You might Google the teacher, look on this board and others to see if anyone has posted a review or opinion.

Happy quilting.

This price has not changed all that much in 2 decades....compared to how much other valuable quilting related items have (fabric, tools, machines!) The Forth Worth TX quild charged similar (slightly less) prices when I was a program chair in the early 1990s.

I did not pay that much for a hands on class long arm class with Karen McTavish!!

It certainly is too much for my budget. But there are the cost that occur when a quilting teacher is on the road with hotel, food and traveling expenses.

I could not/would not pay that much for a class; it is just not in my budget. It is sad that some deserving people are "kept out" of classes because of high prices. I realize that the teachers have to make a living also, but that seems a bit high. I think about how high quilt patterns are now and I wonder where that is going.

I belong to a guild and it usually only costs us $30 to take a class.
