Today I purchased the pattern for the wedding quilt that morelcabin designed on Craftsy, and also purchased the pattern "Triangle Maze", a really neat looking pattern, with not a lot of pattern per se in it. You might go to Craftsy and search for that pattern. It could be for male or any age I personally think.

Pick a pattern you like. He will love it! Something like an Irish Chain is a simple pattern with lots of open space for some fun quilting or go completely scrappy with your materials. There is a fabulous pattern called 'Diamonds are Forever' which can be found in American Patchwork & Quilting Magazine; issue April 2004. This is a beautiful scrappy quilt that has a pattern but it is very subtle diamonds that you have to look for. Take a look. It is shown in fall colors but would work in any colorway.

My daughter said the same about pattern quilts. BUT she loves storm at sea.

Here is a photo of the Diamonds are Forever quilt pattern. It works up great in any color way.

I love the fabric you showed and I think this pattern would be beautiful in those colors. I may have to make another one! This picture is not the one I made. I don't have a picture of mine.

I think the blue one that Dina shows would be the way to go for your DH. Not a patterned girly quilt but very stunning. He would have to love this one.

Jan, you put me in to overload! Fabulous stuff here. Thanks:D

I had fun making my DGS a Scattered D9P. The pattern doesn't really show because after you cut the 9P into quarters, you toss them all into a bag or box and then pull them out and resew them into blocks randomly.
You can find it in photos under Seasonal Greens.

Did you check out some modern quilts - look at Elizabeth Hartman's blog - she does a lot of modern quilts - also there is a book called "Geared for Guys" that has quilts for men - they are really nice and not like patchwork. Good luck.

Here it is in green, just in case that helps. It is made using fat quarters. Might work well for you. The only name I know for it is Puzzle quilt. I could sort of send instructions if you were interested. It is the first quilt pattern I ever made, and I was very happy with it.

I'm seeing something like outside of the box, argyle diamonds, or labyrinth...I can't remember the name but its the one that looks 3D. Those art quilts are amazing, but I'm thinking outside of my expertise!

These were my thoughts exactly.

How do you have an "unpatterned" quilt unless it is crazy squares and even then, it is a pattern--a bunch of crazy blocks. ??

DOTTYMO 06-21-2013 11:22 PM

How about this log cabin with what looks like a square in different colour rotations. There are better designs but can't find them this morning. Oh pattern has mistakes. Is there a tutorial on this type of design?

He wants an art quilt in greens? It would be very complicated to include all of those colours! Maybe a simple applique pattern and a pieced border? I dunno. It sounds like he doesn't really know what he wants TBH....

Dawnmarieodya 06-21-2013 11:58 PM

The fabric says something for an out doors man maybe woods and animals,You dont say any thing about his likes and dislikes of hobbies or if he's a hunter, fisher, sports,or office type guy,or what they call a head hunter.
It would help to know a little of where he's coming from because of the colors he likes.

I would have him design his quilt top!

If you enjoy appliqué, Weidman's book re Outside the Box is wonderful to get you thinking beyond a specific pattern. Your hubby could sketch something and you could turn it into a quilt. It is much easier than it sounds!

quiltmom04 06-22-2013 04:24 AM

Does he WANT a quilt? Or is this your idea? Maybe if he's not that into it, you should just let the idea simmer for a while and go about doing other projects.

WTxRed 06-22-2013 04:26 AM

Since you and he know what he doesn't like - is he willing to find some sample designs he does like? Not that you have to make the one he picks out but it does give you some direction which way to go. I know you've gotten a lot of super suggestions on here but in my opinion, he needs to be the one to show you what he's envisioning.

Beautiful fabrics you've selected.

Yooper32 06-22-2013 04:51 AM

Those colors would be fabulous for a string quilt. Use old phone book pages for the foundation. Either use the blocks as is or quarter them and re-combine for fantastic dimensional blocks.

Shrink42020 06-22-2013 05:05 AM

how about an Argyle pattern?

sewred 06-22-2013 05:22 AM

How about one like this only in the greens you have, it seems a little different?

Latrinka 06-22-2013 06:01 AM

Maybe some applique of things he likes?

localgirl1 06-22-2013 04:41 PM

If the evergreen FQ bundle is what you bought, use white, and use the summer in the park pattern, its simple but nice. all those shades of green with white between the colors will look calm, cool and refresh.

KarenR 06-22-2013 04:46 PM

How about a turning twenty quilt

It's in McCall's Quilting. I can search out the date if you're interested.

Wow! That's a perfect quilt for a man that doesn't like a "patterned " quilt, and would look great with those colors.

GeeGee 06-22-2013 09:20 PM

How about a QR CODE quilt?

Click here: qr code quilt - Google Search

Suze9395 06-22-2013 11:05 PM

I really like the one you did for your DD.
What if you did a sort of abstract turtle shell pattern/design? Those colors would be pretty.

debbieoh 06-23-2013 03:22 PM

Tell him to make it himself. LOL!! for sure it would come out different

debbiemarie 06-23-2013 03:28 PM

What about using the greens cut in strips across the quilt or just plain large blocks with fancy stitching or applique?

alikigirl 06-24-2013 04:03 AM

Google Seeing Squares quilt
