A Well-Trained Husband
I was showing my husband my latest quilt top and he 1) looked interested and 2) said "your points look great". Lol. I have taught him well. it's nearly as automatic as his reply to "Do these jeans make me look fat?" haha.

My husband is also very good at completing my quilts.
But it goes both ways, when he wants me to look over what he's been doing - "That plumbing looks really good" or " You did a great job running those wires" - when I really don't know what I'm looking at . . . |
Great job!! My husband always puts his hands on his chest and says " Oh my gosh girl.. my heart can't take it!" I'd say he's semi-trained... would like to see him do backflips ya know?! LOL
|
That's a perfect response. Mine is still in training. He looks at a quilt and goes, Hmmmm. I don't like that fabric. Pointing out one fabric. As if I would rip it out and replace it after the quilt is done. He also likes the backs better. So now when I show him something, I go, Isn't this great? To give him a clue as to how to respond.

For years my husband would only respond "it's lovely!" Then he started asking why I asked him if I was going to go ahead and do what I wanted anyway, and I replied sometimes I did take his advice (which is true).
It was an amazing thing yesterday though I was laying out the very simple quilt I'm working on and he participated with me. He has a hard time appreciating most of what I do from an art sense, he is very controlled and doesn't "get" scraps but he can appreciate what I called planned quilts better. He would have liked it better if the star blocks I was making had the same order of fabrics and the blocks were placed in the same direction. So we talked about this particular project and why I'm making the design decisions that I am, but that his way was valid too. We have similar issues between us in garden styles, I'm the loose overgrown cottage garden type, and he's the neat precise knot garden with everything clipped and forced into geometric shapes. |
My DH and I used to make quilts together. He would say of a mistake that couldn't be fixed, "Hey, it's folk art!"
|
My husband used to send me back to buy more fabric. He said an artist needs her palette.
|
My DH just learned what a FQ is so I am trying to teach him one day at a time!! :)

My first thought, ‘hey, my kind of guy’ or too be so lucky’. But then I realized I have the right kind of guy. Someone has to have control! 😉🤣🤣🤣

I rarely show my DH my quilts or projects I'm working on. I never think to show them to anyone. I have never wanted opinions or feedback unless I ask for it or it's a safety concern, especially with my quilts. My daughter will see the fabrics I'm using and say I don't like those colors at all but when the quilt is finished she claims it or tries to. LOL
