RatherB Quilting 08-22-2010 05:04 AM

Well, I decided to go back with my 60% off coupon and check out the Kona you all are talking about. I bought a whole bolt of Kona black with the 60% and four yards of Kona red with my 40% coupon. Altogether I left with 72.00 worth of things for 35.00.
I was a happy camper and my cousins will finally get thier quilts...someday...

Good for you, I'm going back with my 50 and 10 VIP and ordering a bolt today too. Yeah for us!!!!

You do know that if JoAnn's is low or out of a particular fabric or stabilizer, that you can use your 60% off coupon and do a special order....doesn't matter how much you need...I did this with faux leather and saved a bundle....

Ladies, don't forget to look for, or ask for the Fashion Fusion magazine put out by JoAnn 3 or 4 per year the FallWinter has two 50% off coupons and four 40% off coupons and they are good until January 22, 2011! I purchased several.

Just got back from Joann's . Got the 80% coupon and had a few 50% off and a $25 gift card that a friend gave me. Wasn't going to go but did because of the 80% .
So ended up getting scissors with it. I looked all around the store and spotted a June Tailor cutting/ironing board Not a sale sign to be seen. Walked to all the places that have cutting boards and checked. No June Tailor listed on the sale signs so cool Or so I thought. Get to the check out. Guess what. Its on sale. I told that cashier that is just wrong. NO sign No listing in the ads. She said 1. We can only put up signs that Corporate sends us. 2. Maybe the for sale sign doesn't list everything that's on sale. It sure has room to list all things not covered I think they could like 2 more words) 3. You can ask any of us to check the price. (Say what?? I have to pick stuff up and carry to you all to check the price? ) That is not my job.
I have gone through this before and I am done. Hobby Lobby is opening a store in the same area guess where I am shopping from now on. And the lady told me the last time I was in there that they would honor Joann coupons. So WHY would I go to Joanns any more?

It will save an additional $88 by waiting until Sunday. We were also going to get a large cutting mat but they were also on sale & the girl didn't know when the sale on them ends. I didn't get one and will check Sunday & see if they are still on sale. My husband said you have never come home from joann's and felt good about it. It just seems like a bait and switch....but we need the batting and can't get any better deal..you just feel like they are playing mind games with you.

It is their job to know when the sales goes off. I would have made her find out for me. I'm sorry but this is part of good customer service. Can you tell that I was (retired) a supervisor in an insurance companies service department. I would be very unhappy if one of my employees gave this answer.

gypsylady5 08-22-2010 08:21 AM

I went to Joann's yesterday and used the 10% off one. Couldn't find anything not on sale that I really wanted or needed. Found fabric on sale for $1.99 and batting at 40% off, so with the additional 10% off, saved more than I spent. Its really hard not to find something not on sale!

borntoquilt 08-22-2010 08:38 AM

Perhaps we should ALL write to JOANN corporate office and let them know we are tired of being dupped! I will not buy anything @ full price, so, like many of you, if I can't use a coupon - I walk out. HOWEVER, I ALWAYS look for customers with lots of stuff in their carts and offer them my coupons. Most people are very grateful-I always tell them that if they can't use my coupons (cause their purchase(s) are already on sale) pass the coupons back to the next person in line.. and sooooo on. The clerks aren't toooo happy about that but what the heck. Discounts aren't coming out of their checks and (so far) there is no RULE that says you can't share coupons, RIGHT! he he he he

gypsylady5 08-22-2010 09:00 AM

I ususally don't even bother with the coupons as I almost never find what I want that is not on sale. It used to be they would give me the 50% off the regular price instead of insisting that I pay the "sale" price. They don't do that any longer - at least not here in Florida. I did like the 10% off my total order coupon and can use that one regardless of what I buy.

Lady Diana 08-22-2010 10:00 AM

For all of you who have coupons that work both in store and online, you can use your coupons on sale items....it just reverts to the regular price and takes the discount off of the original price,.....assuming that the item is not on the exclusion list.
Sometimes, even the exclusion list works. This week a friend of mine wanted the GO cutter....I tried my coupon on the package deal with all the templates and the GO for $581. It took it down to $290.....the Go by itself was on sale for $299...and she got all the great templates and mats.....Some of the templates were available with the 50% coupon too.

Oh Yeah...Been there too. I had a 70% off coupon and I drove 60 plus miles one way BECAUSE the sales clerk told me on the phone that rotary blades weren't included in the sale. So off I drive ( I should have known better) to get a good deal for once. Well, That wasn't the truth. I was very upset and I wasn't the only person either. I finally found an iron board cover that I could have lived without, but I got it 70%off . I think the coupons are a "false" come-on and really a "lie" to us.

That's all I could find, too.

everybody's mother 08-22-2010 10:59 AM

What is wrong with all of us? The 'sale' prices are just the old prices from last year! We really should boycott them! This is not right! When we go to our quilt shops we expect higher prices but at least they are not trying to fool us. I'm done with Joanns and will give my coupons to anyone who wants them. I probably won't be sent many more. If you don't go, they soon stop.

judykay 08-22-2010 11:19 AM

I think they put almost everything on sale when they have good coupons so you have a hard time getting something good, even if it is 10 or 20 percent you can't use it. I feel it is a way of getting us into the store. Just my opinion but I find this happens a lot.

are pigma pens on sale? going to check it out, i have a 60% off coupon to burn!

if not, i am getting a bolt of the fusable i use for t-shirt quilts..it feels like cotton..i forgot the name of it..but i will know it when i see it!

damaquilts 08-22-2010 11:53 AM

I know when I was there this morning one of the things I told the cashier was that I was on a quilt board that had discussed this coupon thing before and people were not happy. It wasn't good for business.
I said the only people bad publicity is good for is a celebrity . Its never good for a business.
I read one time that if someone has a good experience they a certain # of people but if they have a bad experience they tell 4 times that many

JoAnn's has no competition in the Orlando area since the Hancocks all closed. Only one Walmart left with fabric and that will be gone in February. Only thing left here is lqs, the internet and a Hobby Lobby opening next month across the street and two blocks from JoAnn's.

Don't know the quality of their fabric but sure will check them out.

Wouldn't go to JA except our ASG group meets there twice a month. The gal in charge of classes etc. is very cooperative and give us loads of donations for our twice a year luncheons for door prizes. Nice ones too. Even so, I walk out of there month after month without buying anything but an occasional needed thread.

We have a quilting and sewing expo in the area every year and load a bus full to spend the day shopping and taking classes. I plan on buying most of my needs at the show. Floriani always has super buys on their supplies and you can buy more quantity and wider sizes than those dinky ones in the stores. Same is true for thread. I got a whole case of blendables for half what it would have cost by the spool.

These dealers are there to sell cause they don't want to have to pack it up and ship it back home.

Also when we take a bus load, we get a special entrance rate and a free class of our choice. If you have an expo in your area, don't miss it. It's a good deal.

Hancocks in Cincinnati will accept the coupons on any item if that is what the coupon says. I use them there all the time.

There you go!

gypsylady5 08-22-2010 02:35 PM

You said it all. It is a gimick to get us into the store. You can't get the coupon off a sale item even if you take it off the regular price - at least not here! I've tried. I used to buy a bold of muslin using the coupon since it rarely was ever on sale. I can't use that much fabric now, so that is not a good buy for me. You have to really read the label. For those cutter blades - go to Harbor Freight Tools and pick up your 45 mm blades for 2 blades for $1.49. That's the best deal around and they will work for you cutter. You will find them in the carpet tools section.

I went once and the sale was for 50% off on Olfa cutting mats and cutting tools I got the rotary one that costs like $70.00 without even being able to use a coupon. To be it sounds like they should save the money on the mailers since the sales are permanent. They just rotate the items on sale from week to week.

Boy I am with you on this one. I went and thought I was going to clean up but everything was on sale finally bought DMC floss and straight pin holder. Seems more off with the coupons more items are on sale.

watterstide 08-22-2010 02:44 PM

i bought a bolt of fusable stabilizer, the kind i use for t-shirt quilts..i am happy with my purchase! 60% off.

gypsylady5 08-22-2010 02:52 PM

If you can find something that you can use that is a good buy, then its worth it! Otherwise, its a gimmick and a cheap one at that. Won't wind any brownie points with me.

bbeyes 08-22-2010 03:41 PM

Well I really dislike Joannes had 50% coupons and was hoping I would find something but unforatunately everything was on sale it seemed. Found couple bolts of prints for 1.99 which I liked but that was it. Was disgusted. Lady in line behind me bought pellon so I gave the coupon to her but thats the way it seems to be anymore. Here in CA we don't seem to have many fabric stores left. So sad. Was trying to find large flower print for a trellis wall hanging I'm making but haven't had any luck so far.

cooper 08-22-2010 04:19 PM

Jaime? to get you into the store

daylily4u 08-22-2010 05:20 PM

I'm so glad to hear that its not only me!!! I also got 60% coupon, drove 65 miles to the nearest qs and looked for over one hour. Finally when I decided to say the heck with this I found a nice 12 1/2 x 12 1/2 Omnigrid. 47.00 orig. price, this was NOT ON SALE. So I felt as if I didnt waste me time and gas money! This is a lovely case to carry your blocks in and sewing notions. Great for traveling.
Also wanted to ask, at our Joannes the coupon is only good for one yard of fabric. I didn't realize to purchase the whole blot of fabric. Is that the way it goes??? That will be worth it for sure. Also it says on the coupon--not to be used with any other coupon! Am I missing something?? Please help... loosing my value of all my coupons.

cooper 08-22-2010 05:21 PM

hobby lobby has better quality fabric than joanns imho

distar2 08-22-2010 05:38 PM

my boyfriend and i went to two different joann's and he found one thing he wanted to get - no sale sign on it - but when he got to the register they said their register had it on sale for 10% off and they couldn't adjust their system so he walked out without it. that's rediculous - any system can be adjusted or overridden if need be. and i didn't find at the second joann's the item that i saw at the first that i had decided i wanted. neither one of us were happy with them.

Dee 08-22-2010 06:08 PM

On Wed. picked up a flier at the store and got a coupon for 40% off.

Tennessee Suzi 08-22-2010 07:00 PM

I agree with all of you about JoAnns. Wouldn't it be great if we could send all of these comments to their corporate office. I have a discount card through AQS and it has expired so I asked JoAnns to give me a new one and they were out. Told me to try again next time. Since I moved, the nearest JoAnns is 70 miles away....so next time may be a long time!

IBQUILTIN 08-22-2010 07:05 PM

Does JoAnns have batting on the roll in store? I can't remember if I have seen it there or not, and want to get a 25 yard cut with my coupon

distar2 08-22-2010 07:12 PM

yes, they do carry batting by the yard but quite often both of the ones near me are running low. go figure.

JudyMN 08-22-2010 07:22 PM

My flyer had a 40%. The sales were the same. I'm not going this week.

My coupon was 50% off. Not much I needed, so I decided to buy quilt backing. I found the 108" in the beige print. Wasn't a whole bolt, but I assumed close to maybe 8 yards left. So I go to have it measured & it ended up being 2 pieces. First piece was 5 1/2 yards & the 2nd was just under 3 yards. The store clerk said she'd let me have both pieces as one cut & I could use my coupon. I mostly do large quilts & prefer my backing to be at least 3 1/2 yards. There were 2 other partial bolts of the same fabric on the shelf & I asked her if I could try another & see if any measured out to the 3 1/2 yards & swap that for the 3 yard piece. Long story short she did. So I got enough backing to do at least 2 quilts & have some left for smaller projects for the Grand Daughters.

I also agree that too many items are marked on sale so you can't use your coupons.

Another thing that makes me go GRRR was last years Black Friday sales....they had better prices after Black Friday & many of us bought large ticket items, only to find they were on sale for a lot less a few weeks later. The year before Black Friday sales were great. I made out like a bandit. It'll be interesting to see what they do this year.

dharen7 08-23-2010 01:47 AM

when I was walking in my Joanns one day last week, some lady came out carrying a roll of the warm and natural batting. I said now there goes a serious quilter and she just laughed back.
