do any of you know of a good resource to find a western theme quilting pattern?

foxxigrani 02-04-2007 07:33 AM

Hi
Do you mean like cowboys and boots, bucking horses or do you mean southwestern style? I am sure I have it all, if you let me know what you need.

absolutely all of them -- my sister is making a turning twenty quilt out of the most amazing western fabric -- it's a new line (not sure which one) that just came into the quilt shop where she works. She makes em and I quilt em on our long arm.

You can use pretty much any pattern and just use western themed fabric. I made a cowboy quilt for my little great nephew. Used the Shoo Fly block pattern and 2 different cowbody fabrics.

Another idea is to applique boots, cowboy hats and the likes.

Ok hopefully this will work but these are the sites I have in my favorites.

You all have heard me reference several quilts in my posts... I want to give Ms. Watts a big thumbs up for this book...

I recommend it thoroughly. In it you will find the Dazzler quilt I am making now as well as the latilla pattern I will be doing sometime this year.

patterns to quilt already pieced tops seem to be pretty hard to find with a western them. The quilt is pieced with the cutest western fabric, and now my sister wants me to quilt it on our mid arm. And I'm fresh out of ideas. Do you know of any continuous line southwestern quilt patterns?

Safta, I would recommend an all over meander and throw in a few stars. That seems to most logical approach.

Check out www.animas.com

Jackie Robinson has four western patterns available. I have made the Branding Time quilt in queen size. Ths most difficult part was fussy cutting the cowboys. The most fun part was making the boots.

Safta
if the fabric has large enough characters on it stitch around those.or do a meandering like Boo said but with the stars throw in some cactus or lizards boots anything western

I saw this in the lobby of a hospital and loved it! I've been working on the pattern and about have it looking good. I'm using denim for the upper part of the boot, and for the foot of the boot I"m using western theme fabric. It's a devil to do, so it will only be wall size. Sara

that is a wonderful quilt. I like how some boots are one way, others backwards. That is a good looking quilt!!!!!

Well, this is like a ghost from the past! I worked on drawing a pattern to patchwork it, and it looked pretty stupid. So I worked on a pattern to paper piece it, and it was better. So, the story goes that I only got two of the boots done. I'd suggest that you could print out the boot from the photo, and work on making it a paper pieced one. Sorry I can't help you more. Sara

Wish I could help! You have as much as I do; the photos. Perhaps some of our quilting board buddies are more talented and can draw a pattern? Sara

Let me see if I can explain the design I developed for my brother's quilt. I took the western pictures, and did pretty much what it sounds like your sister did. Do you know the big letters that the graffitti artists do? Balloon letters, I think they are called. I found that by doing a capital printed E ... using the balloon technique, I could turn the E any number of ways to create an interesting quilting western look ... I practiced on a few sheets of paper with a pencil before going on to the quilt, and used gold thread (dark yellow) and it just is a good looking color and quilting against the western themed panels and blocks. I can hardly wait to see your finished pictures ...
The inspiration for what I was doing were various brands I had seen, growing up ... and what I had learned from paper piecing the brand my dad ran ...
