*Rewatches the YouTube videos* OMG, it does say "flannel" not "fleece". Well that's a horse of a different color! Good catch, thanks.

After a quick board search, it looks like a few members say fleece will work, but not as well as flannel:

Now I gotta find the flannel section in my Joanns! Or do it in the fleece anyway, since I finally decided to be brave enough to try it.

I was in Joann's today - bought many pieces of fleece remnants for more blankets. It was 75% off. Also got some flannel for more "hug buddies" - that was $2.49 yrd - regular $5.99 or $6.99
I spent $67.+ -- saved $218... nice days work I say.. :)

And the type of flannel you want for the best results would be yarn-dyed.

The regular printed flannel, while it will sort of work, will "fray" with the white back color.

Yarn-dyed is the same on both sides, and has a much cooler effect when frayed. It also frays much more easily.

Fleece is 60 inches wide and will NOT fray.....

Fleece is 58-60" WOF. But fleece will never never fray. I use it to make fleece blankets and stuffed animals. When I make the blankets I run a rotary cutter with a "wave" blade on the edge as a finish and after 10 years and repeated washing those pieces of fleece have never frayed.

fleece doesnt fray, but it fringes very nicely so it works well in a rag pattern.

what are hug buddies?

I ended up buying the flannel. It was $2.49/yard. I bought 10 yards, enough for 4+ quilts, front and back, and with my coupons, spent $20, and that included 2 balls of yarn. Crazy cool sale!

Good choice. I do not like working with fleece as it stretches. I love flannel and use to make lots of little nightgowns and PJs for my girls.

I have made many "woobbies" from fleese. The fleese dosen't fray, but twists n turns after you've snipped the wide seam allowances. NOone will give up their "woobbies"!

I just made 3 denim, (throws) backed with fleece. I tacked out with yarn. Love the rustic look, Have to use pliers (IF) you use the extra thick. Then they have some really cute ones with designs that EVERYONE likes. I believe it's 60 inches wide. myself I enjoy working with it. The one I finished today had 4 inch squares of Denim with 4 inch cotton squares of Mickie Mouse. Naturally no batting. I use old pants for the denim. My family love them, toss around no worry & fuss because it cost $$$$$$.
