when you aren't making baby quilts, a quilt for a specific size bed, wall hanging or lap quilt for throwing over your legs ? I see all these beautiful quilts everyone is making or have made. I'm curious how you decide what size quilt you are going to make to curl up on the couch with, the every day ones.
Thanks
Sheri

Depends on how much material I have that works!

I usually make my quilts depending on who it's for.
Once I determine the receipient, then I chose the pattern, then the size of the quilt.

Unless of course I am making a scrappy quilt and then I pick someone. I can make up to a king on my machine but can't quilt it because of the weight. I take that to a long arm quilter. So it really depends on who it's for to start with.

My favorites are the queen quilts, so I mostly make those. Don't know why, just like to put together a big quilt that will really cover the bed. Oh, and there's the drama of a 90 X 100.....when you toss a queen on the bed, it's just so pretty and looks like you've worked a lifetime.

It all depends on who it's for and how it will be used. I make baby and toddler quilts, lap quilts for one or two people, twin size and full size for school auctions, etc.

I like to use the 50/60" X 72", it is a nice size to use for watching tv, laying on the couch or in a recliner. We like to be able to tuck them around and under the feet.
I will make them longer for taller people :D:D:D

Mostly queen or double at least.

Most of my quilts are about 75" x 75", I also did some smaller wall hangings with 35" x 35" or 40" x 52". They are not made for use but for decoration or quilt shows.

laps & throws usually, unless its for a specific person then it all depends on the size of bed they have..

queen for the kids and king for us. We don't use quilts to snuggle in. I make the kids use blankets a nd keep them folded in the closet.

I've made some baby quilts approx 40x60 up to twin XL but I've only made 8 quilt so far and don't want to make anything larger because it was hard enough quilting that twin XL on my home machine and I don't want to send them to someone for quilting.

One day I will have my own longarm hehe :)

I decide based on who its for and how it will be used. On average - 65"x85" for the couch...I like to wrap myself right up. My first couch throw is 50x70, and its ok to use (I'm under it right now!), cozy and all, but I just don't find it big enough.

Usually queen size, unless I get carried away, then king size. That way, it doesn't matter who they are for, usually they will fit any ones' bed.

Thank you all who responded. I was just curious about how you judged the size quilt you made for every day use. I know when I was working in fabrics and ppl would ask about fleece blankets, I always told them to go by how tall the person was they were making it for.
When I made rag lap quilts for my DH and my dad, I made them different as my DH is over 6 foot. I also added a fleece pocket on the back so they could stick their feet in to be extra warm.
Thanks again for all the responses. It was just a curiosity thing on my part. :)
