I know there is no dumb questions. So here goes. I have seen the word batik and I know it is a fabric. What I don't know is is it a brand or a style or a blend. Would someone please tell me what it is.

It is a style. Actually Batik is a dying method. It is a wax resist dying method. Fabric is dyed a color then a design is applied with wax which resists the 2nd dye bath of another color. This can be done numerous times. Then the wax is melted out. The result is beautiful and unique and the techinque has been around for centuries. Most batiks are made in Indonesia (Bali). Hoffman's line of batiks is called Bali Batiks. Most major manufacturers have a batik line. I like Hoffman, Timeless treasures, most all of them! Google batik fabrics or do a search here to see examples of the fabric.

I use as many batiks as possible! I love them, the feel is different and the fabric is a tighter weave. I throughly enjoy the color variations in each piece of fabric.

lol... im not actually gathering more...
i cut all purples into strips... just over 600 - 2" x 6"
need 784 lol  so i ordered another 3 yards (sending a fq of each to my july pal next month)
i am going to order a batik for the sashing rows between braid lol :P

i am soooo not a fan of purple or pink otherwise lol... dont it figure that those are 2 of my DDs favorite colors lol... (525 squares of pink and the 784 strips of purple) sick of both colors already lol I decided they are lucky i love them and am obsessed with making them lol
after these 2 are done, i doubt if i want to see any more purples (or pinks) lol
