What batting for corduroy/cotton quilt?
 

I'm going to begin making a double sided quilt for my bed and have an opinion question for you all..
One side will be corduroy and the other will be cottons... What kind of batting would you use?

The quilt I'll be making is Sewing with Nancy's Column Quilt http://video.wpt2.org/video/1701089053/ but in oversized queen size.

I was thinking of flannel possibly since it will be heavy from the cord. What do you guys think? Do you think there would be any reason to use actual batting?

Flannel sounds like a good option since one side of the quilt will be cord and the quilt might become too heavy and too warm. Since flannel does tend to shrink, I would wash the flannel first.

What about using and old flannel sheet... Ive never had a corduroy quilt so I cannot imagine the weight (or not) of the quilt... But I do like the corduroy idea very much...

I was thinking of a flannel sheet although I don't have one so I'd have to pick one up. It's a quilt as you go project so I can piece the flannel. My first thought was flannel so I will probably stick with it. I'm fairly certain I have enough on hand already although probably not in the length that I'll need... that might be a reason to use batting since I do have that in the right length. Decisions, decisions!

I've made several of queen size quilts with this method and I wouldn't use anything on the corduroy side and flannel at the most on the cotton side. I made one quilt with flannel on the back and front columns and it seemed really heavy to me. My next one I used flannel on the back column and muslin on front and that worked out really well. I really enjoyed doing quilts this way especially when money is tight and I send my quilts to a LA

I would use Hobbs Thermore. It is a very thin light weight poly batting. You can get it in various sizes.
Personally I would prefer this over a woven fabric like flannel. It will be softer and less heavy.
