There are so many awesome tips here! I have to share two: 1) get a 1/4" presser foot. It will transform your life; 2) there are no mistakes, just opportunities for applique!

Move on. Figure it out, or move on. That was the best tip I've ever received. No reason to beat yourself up. If you don't get it now, you will possibly get it later. Try something else.
