Agree, flannels need to be prewashed for shrinkage. Forgot them !

Tell me about it! I had 20-something green fat quarters and quarter yards for my boyfriend's quilt. First they got put in hot water to check for bleeding. Most of them were batiks so, of course, they bled. All but two had to get a Retayne bath. Then they were rinsed, hung up, and air dried. After that they were sorted by lights and darks and put into the wash for shrinkage and possibly any excess dye I didn't get during rinsing. Threw in a Shout Color Catcher just in case...the color catcher always came out white so the Retayne must have worked. Then they went into the dryer and ironed once they were done. FINALLY I cut them into Winding Ways clover patches.

I tell ya its a pain, but if it keeps my fabric from ruining the quilt by shrinking and bleeding its worth it.

It does take a little time. However, that is much better than having a major disaster with bleeding colors or shrinkage.
