What brand to use on spray adhersive & where to get clips
 

I know this has been talked about, but I can't find it. Sooo please advise me on the right spray adhersive for quilting. And secondly you all talked about these clips used for binding your quilt that was flat on one side and had 1/4 inch measurement on it and I can't remember the other measurement . And I lwould like to know where I can purchase these things. even if I have to order them. Thanks for any feed back. Have a nice Day!

I only use 505 in the red can! I buy it by the case, and have split a case with another quilting friend when she was in need also. I think I bought my clips at Joann's with a coupon.

One of hte most commonly used spray bastings is 505 spray , this brand always seems to get good reviews. I have also had good results with the Prim/Dritz brand that you can get at Jo'Anns. One big tip is to not use the "more " is better approach when spraying. A little bit goes a long way to basting a top. Do be cautious of the over spray and spread a sheet or some protection as to not get the spray onto other surfaces.

just make sure you buy temporary basting spray. not permanent. read the labels. I use 505 or Sulky mostly. and i use the silver clips for my binding. like hair clips. they bend to open and bend to close. work great. those were before the Red clips came out. either one will work well for you.

I use Helmar HR Five temporary adhesive spray. Repositionable. Will not gum needle. Odorless and colorless. Acid Free.

It's $19.99 for a 11.64 oz can. I buy it at a needlework shop so it may be cheaper online if you find free shipping.

How long does it stay active? Patti Thompson mentioned in her video that she has had the 505 stay tacky for 4 1/2 years. How does the Helmar compare?

I have read elsewhere on the board that Sulky does not adhere for long periods of time (years); it is more of a temporary basting spray. 505 is the only brand I use now, after trying several different ones, and it will hold for years. I like 505 for several reasons, one of which is that it does not have the overpowering stinky odor that others have (although you still need to use it in a well-ventilated area, for obvious health reasons).

I don't spray baste until I'm ready for the quilt to be quilted, it holds fine until I'm done, anywhere from one week to a couple of months, then it's washed out. I don't want to store the spray basted quilt for a long time. Helmar is a temporary adhesive not permanent. It's the only spray adhesive the heirloom needlework shop in town uses so I figure it's good enough.
