What is that material that one uses that is silver used in making potholders and such....you know like what you find on ironing board covers.

For the life of me I can't remember what it is called.

Up North 09-29-2011 07:53 AM

insulbrite

Melinda in Tulsa 09-29-2011 07:53 AM

hehehe! If you hadn't asked...I could have told you! I do remember it starts with an *I*.

nativetexan 09-29-2011 07:57 AM

well there is a silver quilted one, JoAnn's should have it.
then out came insul-bright which is white on both sides with a bit of silver stuff in the center. they both work.

I have bought that silver cloth but don't know what it is called. I don't think it's insubrite as that's a special type of batting for hot stuff.

blueangel 09-29-2011 07:59 AM

Insulbrite is the one I use

Havplenty 09-29-2011 08:03 AM

i bought 3yds insulbrite at hobby lobby for $2.47/yard that i use for the potholders i make. next time i will use a coupon to get more at a great price.

hancock fabrics sells insul-fleece(?) at about $9.95/yard.

BellaBoo 09-29-2011 08:04 AM

The solid silver fabric that deflects heat is called Heat Resistant fabric. Therma-Flec is the most common brand. I like the solid much better then Insulbrite.

Never saw this one before, you learn something everyday.

soccertxi 09-29-2011 04:38 PM

I just call it ironing board fabric! Insulbite looks like batting with the silver in the middle...

Well, I call it "Ironing board cover" fabric. I have it on my large 60x80 table for ironing my quilt tops. Insulbrite is the stuff that goes inside for potholders, etc. Actually, the silver stuff is usually called "Teflon Ironing Board cover fabric."

grannypat7925 09-30-2011 04:31 AM

teflon coated ironing board cover.

taryn72 09-30-2011 04:47 AM

I like insul-bright

Anna O 09-30-2011 05:58 AM

I have tried many and prefer the insulbrite.

BINGO!....sold for replacing your ironing board cover, great for making your own BIG board or even a little board to keep handy!

So the question really is...did you want the stuff for the INSIDE or the outside of your project.
The Teflon/Silver cloth is for the outside and Insulbrite BATTING is for the inside!

BettyGee 09-30-2011 06:35 AM

Insulbrite by The Warm Company is what I use and have always had great success with that product.

Wunder-Mar 09-30-2011 10:14 AM

Lots of respondants didn't really read the WHOLE question, got as far as "pot holder" and glommed on to Insul-Brite.
Our poster states it's used for ironing board covers. I've used it for ironing board covers, pot holders, oven mitts and (ta-da!) jar covers for those jar blocks (I used my pintuck attachment to create the ridges in the canning lids).

I've always known it as teflon fabric, and have bought it quilted and UNquilted.

Here are two weblinks to the Nancy's Notion's website for both items, which she markets as "Iron Quick":
UNquilted: http://www.nancysnotions.com/product...uick+fabric.do

QUILTED: http://www.nancysnotions.com/product...uick+fabric.do

Hobby Lobby has the BEST price I have ever seen for insulbrite.
AND you can use the 40% off coupons on it.

betlinsmom 09-30-2011 01:12 PM

I thought it was called Thinsulate!

haircut2 10-01-2011 10:13 AM

Bought some insulbright at JoAnnes used my 50 % off.
I think it was about 7 a yard regularly.

Dawn227 10-03-2011 03:49 AM
