Be careful when using cleaning solutions of any kind on the machine's colored buttons. Even vinegar. I bought a used 6600 Janome machine and someone had cleaned the blue color off one of the buttons. Of course, it still works, but it does take away from the beauty of the machine.

Good luck with the ordor problem. Please let us know what does work so that we can have that information available for the next person with that problem. Thanks.

I agree with the ozone generator, although it's a bit of a uni-tasker. It's what hotels use when someone smokes in a non-smoking hotel room.

Me, too!!!

I was given a good machine that was covered with cigarette stuff, and I just washed all of the brown stuff off. I don't remember what I used, but, then I polished the thing complete and that was it.

It could very likely have come off just with usage .... the continuous pressing.
On mine, you could definitely see what buttons I used more than the others.
No doubt about it!

I received a basket from a secret sister and my niece, who used to be a smoker told me to wrap it in newspaper. I had tried everything else including washing it in soda water and rinsing it in vinegar, putting charcoal in a plastic bag with it but it still smelled. I wrapped it in the newspaper, sealed it in a plastic bag and left it about a month and when I opened it and took it out the smoke smell was gone. You might also try Febreze for smokers.
