I would add a 3" x 8" complementary solid/reads-as-solid block to each so you have 12 8" square blocks. I might alternate so the top row, for example, has an upright S, the middle a horizontal S and an upright S to create visual interest. Then I would sash and add borders to create a child or lap size quilt.

I think I'd get a print with the colors in it and run them in strips between your S strips. It's very cute!

In order to come up with a lap size throw, you are going to need to widen it quite a bit (sashing and borders will work for the length). My suggestion is to add 2 or 3 rows for width. I would use solid blocks (or maybe just a bit of piecing). But, I would stagger the 'S' blocks, maybe in a diagonal pattern. Example - row 1 vertically - move block 2 (blue S) and block 4 (black S) over to new vertical row 2 and replace them with a new solid. Then place a new solid in spot #1 and spot #3 in new vertical row 2. Current vertical middle row do the same - move #2 (greenish S) and #4 (yellow S) over a row and replace with solids. Repeat with last current row. This will give you 6 vertical rows of 5 1/2 " = 33" and 4 horizontal rows of 8" = 32". If you were to add 2" sashings, you would have 47" x 42". Add borders and it would finish as a lap quilt. (I hope I explained it correctly - you did ask for specifics!)
