What can I make with this jelly roll?
I ordered a Moda scrap bag recently and received it this week. I got a Jelly Roll made up of mostly black, Brown, Gray and very few cream colors. Real somber looking. Maybe I could add to the mix to make something spectacular, ya think? Suggestions appreciated.

Depending on what you are envisioning, you could add a bright or light neutrals or several brights or. . .
Or you could split it up among several different quilts, using various ones for sashing. |
I'm one for brights, myself, so as Mom-6 says, you can add some to the mix. I also have seen some amazing paisleys in the stores with greys, black, some taupe/beiges and adding one strong print in that has the same colors as your jelly roll could be powerful. The price was right on the scrap bags and picked up a few myself and they're on my shelf waiting for their time at the machine.

I think I would add scarlet to the black/brown/gray and creams.

What about doing a jelly roll quilt and add red. My friend went to a quilters retreat and they made jelly roll quilts. They added a 2 1/2 square on the end of every jelly roll and then sewed together. When they had one long strip they cut off 19 inches and then start sewing together . It was really cool looking
|
What about turquoise/kingfisher blue? It also goes well with these colours
|
I'm making this quilt, I had some leftover civil war jellyroll fabrics, and I needed to use them for a challenge quilt I'm making.

I had a similar color palette in this "jelly roll" . I did not find it "somber".

KimT do you mean they cut every 19" after the whole long strip was finished then sewed it all back together or the quilt was 19" wide finished? I like the sound of adding the squares on the end of every strip? I bet it was very striking.

I just watched Jenny's tutorial from Missouri Quilts ... Coin Quilts with a little Pizzazz. Use a bright color for the borders ... only a yard.
|
Add an assortment of reds to perk them up.

That jelly roll sounds great! I'd add a few lighter grays, beiges and whites. Make a log cabin, spiral log cabin, split log cabin, bento box, a braid, a jelly roll starburst, rail fence, square in a square - hmmm wanna trade it? :)
|
I have bought some like that. I went to my stash and cut some colors that brightened them up. I love your bag sandygirl.

Here is something great. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cVyDn6kD0_c

They'll make a great background for large scale applique. I put them together using the 1600 jelly roll method and then it'll tell me what it wants for applique.

a jelly roll makes nice stars or a tube quilt. just add some yardage and go for it.

search for rail fence diamond quilt, Jenny Doan from MO Quilt Co has a video of a rail fence on there that looks super easy and you could pick any color you want for a diamond.. Just an idea

love this bag.

Add some orange, purple and green and you are ready for Halloween.
|
The fat quarter shop has a free printable jelly roll pattern for a quilt. It is called jelly roll jam. It is interesting and seems like it would go very fast.
|
You could add a very bright blue and some yellow to break it up.

Continue with this process until you have the dimension you want.....(generally 4 or 5 folds and seams )......you can add a border or not...... This makes a very interesting striped design.............and by removing the 18 or 19 inches at the beginning, your seams from sewing strips together are not all in one line - but are scattered throughout your quilt top....... This makes a quick and cute quilt top........Hope this helps!!! Have a great day... |
I love this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L5Ixvjje310

Put some red or other brite colors with it it will be beautiful
|
There was one posted here the other day and it appeared they cut 19" off at the start and added a patch between each strip. It was a pastel baby quilt.
