What color sashing
I bought a bundle of 10" squares, the Ultra Violet Catalina collection from Maywood fabrics. I want to make the T-intersection quilt from a Missouri Star tutorial. I am stumped about the sashing because the pkg already has a black and a white square in it, I need all 42 squares for the quilt. Any ideas for sashing?

Grey is the new black?

I think white is going to be the best sashing for this fabric; what I would do is buy an additional FQ of one of the fabrics in the line so that you didn't have to use the solid black or white squares in the quilt; or maybe shop your stash and find something compatible.

After looking at the line, I don't think gray would suit it. I agree with joe'smom, buy a FQ and use it to make a 10" square.
I would audition both black and white for the sashing. I personally love how black makes colors pop, and this line has some intense color. |
I looked at it online, too. Nice collection. Since I'm not a fan of solids. I would probably get a piece of one of the fabrics that are tone on tone either the black or the white. There are several that have small leaves or blossoms on a solid background that you could use, but I would be afraid they would make it too busy.

It's a gorgeous collection. Wow. I'd audition white, black and grey tone-on-tones and see which one speaks to you. The grey might be sophisticated and soft so as to showcase the fabrics, or it might dull the colors. Black can make colors pop, but sometimes it's too harsh. White is pure, but sometimes has the dulling effect as well. So that's why I hesitate to commit without seeing some of your auditions.
I agree to not use the solid black or white blocks. Your eye would stop on them and be distracted. |
I think I will get a few fat quarters as suggested, omit the black and white squares and use a forest green sashing.

Sounds like you've got a handle on it...but would love if you posted a picture somewhere along the way.

I was also thinking about a green, either lighter or darker than those in your squares. In doing so, there would not be a need to omit the black or white squares.
