what color should I use for binding?
1 Attachment(s)
This is my flimsy and I am torn about what color to use for the binding. Or should I add a blue border first then use burgundy for binding? My thought of using a dark blue to bind it seems a little stark next to the beige/burgandy borders. Thoughts, suggestions? Thanks in advance for the help.

I'll let others make suggestions, but wanted to say your quilt is so attractive!

Beautiful quilt! I recommend a narrow tan border and blue binding.

Lovely project! However you finish it will be wonderful.
I'd use a blue background border something like the top left star background -- something that has a bit of the tan and burgundy already in it. At least the width of the double sashed border, maybe as large as the center of the stars. I'd finish with the burgundy binding. When in doubt/if you don't have the right fabric, consider a white or white on white binding. It would go with the whites in the stars and few things say nice crisp finish better than a white binding. If that's too stark maybe look at an off-white that isn't one of the beiges already used. |
On second look, I think a burgundy binding only —no border needed. If you use blue after the tan and red, it will take on a patriotic look if you want that. But it doesn’t look specifically patriotic with your pink roses . I normally go for a dark binding because it gets dirty easily when handled.

When I am really stuck, or short of fabric, I often join various pieces of left-over fabric from the quilt and make the border from that. It looks quite attractive and takes away the question of what colour to use.

I think a burgundy binding, like the color of the star on the top left would look nice without a border. It would be dark enough to contrast with your sashing while at the same time picking up the colors in both the sashing and the stars.

Pretty top! If you have enough of the burgundy sashing fabric, I would use that for binding. I think the solid burgundy or navy is too much contrast. One of the other background in the stars with a small pattern might work though.

Pretty quilt. I agree with you that the blue for binding would be a little stark. Possibly use the beige fabric that is in your sashing? Whatever you chose it will be very complimentary to your nice quilt.
