I am getting ready to start a log cabin quilt. Should I us black or white thread for this. The fabric that I am using is many different colors. I am attaching a picture of the fabric that I am going to us. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Thanks,

Robyn

Have you ever used gray? It is a great neutral and you will be amazed at how it "disappears"! I would use a medium gray for the colors you are showing.

The color of thread that I use a lot of is sort of a medium greenish gray - approximately the color of the water after dying a bunch of Easter eggs.

It blends in amazingly well with a lot of colors - even reds.

I definitely would not use black.

I agree gray.

I had not even thought of using gray. This is why this board is so great. I just love it here. Now I just need to get some gray thread.

grey you will be amazed how well it blends

Grey or navy. They will both blend in quite well. And, will save tons of strain on your eyes if you ever have to take out any stitches.

Awesome color selection, BTW, for you quilt. Hope you post finished pictures.

i would use a light gray or cream/taupe...so it disappears

I vote for gray too!

I use taupe/cream for all of my piecing - it's a great neutral. The one I use is Mettler silk-finish #50.

I never use black or white thread unless it is a black or white fabric. Grey is a wonderful color to use but I also use a light lavender or a beige. All of them will effectively blend in for piecing.

I typically use either grey or beige or some variation of those. Works well with just about any color.

For all of my piecing, I use white or cream unless there are two black pieces sewn together, at which point, I switch to black thread. I rarely use colored thread, unless applique-ing (sp??). I also will use colors for quilting.

I use medium grey on everything. It really just seems to fade away.

Are you talking about piecing or quilting? for piecing I use a neutral thread like ivory or off white. Gray might work nice since the colors are bright. For quilting - depends on how you are quilting. There are verigated thread in the colors that you are using. Also I use invisible thread on top for SID. It blends in so well that you can not see any top stitches. on the bottom I use thread matchng the backing. Just be careful if you're using dark thread on the bottom and invisible on top that the dark does not show on top.
