What color would you use?
At my quilt guild, I picked up a pack of fabric scraps on the "free" table. A solid dusty dark salmony color (similar to terra cota) with small off-white flowers, quite old fashioned looking. I am trying to decide on a nice complementary color (maybe a specific green or blue). I can tell that a solid off white would be fine, but want to be more creative. What would you use? THX!

Well, I would go ahead and use a bit of the off white , then I'd use a deep brown. But, I'm about the only person who likes brown, otherwise, how about a deep, intense green?
I'm sure you'll find something pretty. :) |
you and my mother ;-) I'll be posting a brown quilt for her later today.
|
maybe something turquoise?
|
Teal and off white might look good with it.
|
I would also try turquoise.
|
Something from the turquoise family with the same amount of "dusky" saturation in it that the "terracotta" has would be its compliment.....like a dusky teal. I'd also use a cream rather than a true white.
Sounds really pretty! Jan in VA |
Even the right shade of a pale blue could work well, depending on what pattern you might be using and what kind of a feeling you are looking to achieve. I agree with Jan in VA, cream would be perfect too.

I would take it to my stash and preview it next to lots of colors. Try everything--the results might surprise you!

Any color with gray tones in it will be fine.
