I would use black and white varigated.

Sneed 07-19-2011 07:30 AM

A steel gray would look great.

ShirlinAZ 07-19-2011 07:56 AM

Go with grey, variegated if you can find it. A large meander would be wonderful. The quilt is beautiful and she (someday her children) will be able to use any color with it.

I would use grey.

I really like that quilt! It's very modern looking, IMO.

penski 07-19-2011 11:20 AM

i think grey would look great

Well I have practiced with different colours on my practice sandwich and have tried with the following, black on its own, as someone said, really difficult to see and didn't look quite right. Then I used a varigated grey/black/white and that looked really nice on the solid black. Then I tried plain white and that certainly stood out more. In the end I have decided to go with the varigated thread on the top and plain white on the bottom of the quilt as that is the one that looks better on the back. Thank you so much for all your help and one day, when I am more experienced I hope that I can return the help. When I finally have it quilted I will post a picture.

I think RED would be gorgeous, but then I,m partial to red, LOL.

kwiltnutt 07-19-2011 12:08 PM

I would use a black and white variegated thread in a meander.

Thanks for your lovely comments and suggestions. Went to Hobbycraft this morning. Got black thread and also found a variegated black/white/grey. Got a sample sandwich made so will see which looks the best.
As previously mentioned we do not have a large selection of shops near here, and as I do not drive I rely on my DH to take me to the stores. Bless him he is very supportive of this expensive hobby. Mark you he fishes and plays golf so I guess it is all a matter of balance.

Thanks, Sue. After I had posted my message, I again looked at the pic of your beautiful quilt. I realized it was a D9P. I have made 4 of them and still didn't immediately recognize the pattern. LOL.
I think it was the 2-color combination that threw me off.....it looked so different. I am already on a search for black/white fabrics to make one for a special friend.

Much thanks for taking the time to reply.

All the best.

Depends on what kind of pattern you plan on using for the quilting... red would stand out nicely, but if you choose a pattern that flows w/the fabric, it won't take away from the quilt.

My 2nd choice would be a steal grey.

RED!!! I did a black and off white, with Red thread. love it.

King Tut has a wonderful black to light grey variegated thread that looks great on black and white quilts.

desertrose 07-19-2011 05:19 PM

I would consider medium to charcoal gray. If yoou could find a varigated thread of grays that would look nice too. Happy Quilting whatever you decide.

Quilting Angel 07-19-2011 10:45 PM

I would use black thread to quilt it. Very pretty.

Now I know what color to use on DH music note quilt. It is black and white as well.

You did a great job on your quilt. Gray would be my choice too. I know your daughter will cherish her quilt.

kristen0112 07-24-2011 09:08 AM

I would do black or gray thread if I didn't want it to stand out. I would FMQ meander.
