What To Do with 4 Patch Blocks
1 Attachment(s)
The original quilt pattern didn't work out that I was making. It was 5 inch squares with a batik around them and then more 5 inch squares as a border. After all that work, I realized the batik was too thin for the quilt. So I whacked that batik right out of there with my rotary cutter.
I have cut down all the border squares into 4 Patch Blocks. The block size is 8 1/2 inches right now but can be cut down again if needed. What can I do with these 4 patch blocks? Can I put two blocks right sides together and stitch down each side of an X and cut? Do you have another suggestion for a pattern? This will be a table runner to practice quilting. Thanks! I Googled Disappearing 4 patch variations and came up with several cute results. These are the only two I looked at. There are YouTube videos listed. Have fun!

I would do that by using graph paper and coloring in a 16 patch and cut the paper up instead of cutting up your squares without knowing how it will turn out. Just think...you could invent a new look. Or you could cut corner to corner, add a thin (maybe 1/2" finished) sashing to add some interest. Swap the innards of the blocks around for more fun. |
I used this tutorial and made the last one. It turned out great. My squares were 5", but 4" should work out. http://www.happyquiltingmelissa.com/...-blogging.html

Here is another tutorial on a disappearing 4 patch which is one of my favorite patterns.

Thank you for the inspiration!
These are great ideas and help focus on patterns for these blocks. I tried a search before posting and got lost. |
