I bought this bag of already cut pieces in two fabrics. One is cut into diamonds and is lilac fabric and the other fabric is a lavendar fabric and it is cut into 31/2 triangles and 41/2 triangles. I have no idea what she cut them for but I have lots of other purples to add to them and I have about 100 of each shape. I hope someone has some idea of a pattern that could work. The diamond is one like you would use in a windmill block. Thanks for any ideas.

What are the angles on the diamonds and triangles?

Can you post a picture?

Here's a bunch of Windmill blocks - none with diamonds.

Sometimes the Kaleidoscope block is referred to as a Windmill block - but that also only has triangles, no diamonds.

I guess I didn't mean windmill. The diamonds are like if you took a 3" strip and cut it at a 45 into 4 1/2 inch pieces.

So it's a 45degree diamond.
What about the triangles? Are they HST? Equilateral?

Pictures would be helpful. ;-)

A lemoyne star?

or what about a carpenters star, substitute your diamonds for 2 of the triangles?

I was thinking maybe a modified hunters star.

Very, very easy.

Take the picture and transfer it to your hard drive.
Hit Quote Reply and you'll see a File Attachments section under the white text box.

(If you just use the white Reply text box at the bottom of the page, you can post your message and then add the picture via the Add New Attachments option.)

Click on Browse, locate the picture on your hard drive, and select it.
You need to put at least an x in the reply box, but then just hit Send and it will upload.

Very, very easy.

If you click the Preview button, the attachments are going to be discarded, so you would have to re-add them again.

For the very computer challenged, the step "transfer to your hard drive" is the step that stops all further progress.

Mazel Tov!!

The triangles - is the bias on the long edge or the shorter edges?

carreen 09-25-2011 06:30 PM

the long edge

Oh.
Maybe they were cut incorrectly - in terms of bias.

I've used those shapes in borders (diamond, larger triangle), but even if you did a strip, it would be bias all along the edge which would be a nightmare.

OTOH, going back to the LeMoyne star - the diagram below show how both those triangles could be used in the construction.
Although, again, huge bias issues all along the side/top/bottom edges.
The corners will be ok because the yellow will not have any bias on the outside.
I didn't check the measurements exactly, but they look like they'll fit. Yikes, let me go do that now.
