Do any of you sorta flounder when you get in your sewing room (space)? I have sewwww many things that I want to get done that I don't know where to start so nothing gets done :oops: :oops:
So, being the organized person that I am :roll: I decided to make tags with the things I want to do (ie hand quilting, frame quilting, binding, piecing, applique, machine applique, my choice, etc) I put them in a container and choose one daily. At least thats the plan ;) I'll let you know in a week from now how it goes :lol: I'm also thinking about keeping a daily journal so I can actually have a record of the things that I have done :idea:

I keep a journal of the projects I work on as I work on them. That way I know when I made what, who I made it for, the time it took to make it, the fabric I used, where I got the fabric, and all the rest. My quilts will have a running history with them so years from now someone will be able to know all about each quilt.
Good luck with the daily lottery you have going. I had thought about that when trying to decide where to go eat sometimes. Never about what project to work on. Good thought.

I have 6 of 35 Boomerangs Swap blocks done and the deadline is April 1. I KNOW what I need to work on - pant pant.

Do any of you take pictures of your finished quilts?? And keep a journal along with the picture of it? Date fiished, wo it went to, etc? I started that when I first started quilting but I think I have forgotten a few pics. DARN!

I keep a loose leaf notebook so I can easily take out and put in pages. I keep:

1. Picture of project if there is one

2. Graph paper "picture" of project with all measurements and if the projects have blocks I draw how a block is put together

3. Snip of the fabrics glued to another page especially mostly so I won't forget. I bag the fabric with the name of the project on it and shelve it. I think those are called "PIGS" or "Projects In Grocery bags".

4. On the back of the graph paper or even on the front I put start date, sometimes if applicable the "done basting" date, "done quilting" date, and "done binding" date and so on.

5. Photograph and where the quilt is now.

6. I ask to have problem items sent back to me, or at least to tell me about any problems and I record that information, too. Also if the quilt has been sent to me for washing! Yes, it happens!

I have some information on almost everything but looking back, some of the photos were pretty poor and I wish I'd been fussier about getting a "Good" picture every time. Since I know where the quilts are I've been thinking of asking people to take photos for me, the digital photos are much better, so are the photographers!

Oh, yes, I used to keep a list of projects I had supplies for and projects I wanted to buy fabrics for but it got way, way too long!

I'm not organized enough to keep a journal, although I think it's a great idea. About the closest I get to keeping track of quilting projects is putting the number of the project on the label along with name, date, name of project. For example, my last quilt finished was my 13th project done, so that went on the label. I figure that someday when I'm long gone my family might find it interesting to know where a particular quilt fit into my history. And then I take a picture of the quilt and of the quilt label. As easy as this is, I am two projects behind - the pictures are in the computer but not printed for my photo book. Someday......

You are much more together than I am, thats for sure. lol
I {try} to rememberthe pictue BEFORE I send it out, then keep a little journal of all my quilts made. Just the dates, who got it and the year with the picture. But I like your idea of putting the fabric swatches with it also.
One time I "tried" to keep track of were I bought my fabric, how many yrds and the price per yard, bu my "stash" got way out of hand and that idea went right out the window..........haha

I do take pictures of my quilts, way behind on the journaling. I am organized, BUT the order keeps changing. Every quilt I see is next one I want to make. Then comes in to the picture, the next ones I have to make.

I forgot to take pictures of some of the quilts I've done and when I asked DH where the ones were for the ones he DID take pictures of...ah, I donno!!

In answer to the original post - yes, sometimes I get completely overwhelmed by what to do when I have time to sew. I think I have too little time and too make plans and just don't know what to focus on.

I have taken one or even several pictures of EVERY quilt I have ever made. I also have a folder in my computer (and on a flash drive) with the information as to the name of the quilt, when I made it, who I gave it to, how big it is, when it was completed, and other little pieces of information that someone might like to know a hundred years from now. Sometimes I even have a picture or two of the person I made it for, holding the quilt on his/her lap. My mother put the thought into my head when I was doing cross stitch years ago.

Jeepers, I did not even answer the original question. Sometimes I get in my sewing room and just sit there, looking at stuff. I do not really think I am over whelmed really, I just am so happy that it is nicely organized.
