What to do with old sewing machine needles?

I have this old pin box full of used sewing machine needles. Does anyone out there have any clever or brilliant ideas on what can be done with these needles? I don't just want to throw them in the trash (hence why I've been keeping them in the old box). I have bathrooms at work that have the needle disposal boxes (meant for diabetic syringes, etc) so I could always throw them there too I suppose. What do y'all do with them?

I put them into a metal candy container and eventually throw the container in the trash. We don't metal recycling on this island.

Some I throw away. Others I use to hang odds & ends in my quilt room. The point is sharp and the top part is thicker to hang things on. Read this hint somewhere and using old needles is better than hunting up a nail!

That's what I do, too.

Put mine in pill bottle. When full tape lid on and throw in trash. Please don't throw in containers for medical waste. The owner of the container has to pay by weight to have those disposed of as hazardous waste

When I found this, quite by accident, I immediately was given a new respect for the tools I use in my studio.

Mahalo for the lovely site about honoring our needles and pins.

And I found two new favorite blogs.

I use an empty pill bottle to put mine in. When it's full, then I can dispose of it.

I also use and empty pill bottle for my used needles and pins. I make a hole in the bottle lid big enough, not only for the needles but, also for the pins. With the lid on, I don't have to worry about it getting knocked over and spilling the pins and needles.

I put the used needle between duct tape and toss in trash.
