A friend of mine ask me to do this quilt for her. The top was finished but when I looked at it I could'n belive how she had matched the seams ,if they didn't fit she just put a tuck in . I had to take it all apart ,cut them all the same size and put it back together. It is a crazy quilt . When she attached a different fabric she turned under a 1/4 inch and top stitch it down. My poblem is in quilting it on a long arm do I quilt it on the front are the back. Will I have problems going over thoes seams with my longarm .
I sure could use some help and advice.

you said it is a crazy quilt? does it have embellishments? like buttons or items you would not want to run over with your machine? you asked about quilting it from the back? why would you be thinking about this? is the picture of the front or back? assuming it the front, are all of the blocks like this one? if so i would just load it up and do an all over meandering quilting pattern, possibly with loop-d-loops, stars, hearts, flowers?

With all the work you both put into this top I would try, take it slow and do a minimum of quilting ( an open simple design). It could be beautiful when finished.

since she didn't stitch right on the edge of the seams it's going to be hard not to catch them with the foot and flip them over in spots.

Which is probably why she is considering putting it on the frame upside down with the top loaded as the backing and the backing loaded as the top.

I was actually discussing this exact same scenario with my dealer during the longarm install yesterday because I have a quilt in mind that I want to quilt it by following the design on my backing fabric. He had never tried it but didn't see why it couldn't be done. He suggested that I simply baste some strips of fabric to the quilt top so it is bigger then the backing so I could ensure the whole top would be quilted. Then simply load the quilt on the frame as though my quilt top was the backing.

You could definitely try this, it would definitely solve the problem of your foot catching on those unstitched top seams.

Thanks so much for your advice . That is what I was afraid of is catching on the edges where she top sewed I think I will put the sides like you said and a header at the top .

Have you used the zippers to attach your top and bottom to the leaders it works great . I just baste the top and bottom to the leaders .
