I have recently found out that my foster mother has been diagnosed with cancer. She is in stage 4 of what started out as breast cancer, ( undetected), that has spread to her bones. This is the woman who taught me to sew when I was young. Does anyone think making her a lapquilt is a silly idea? I am 1000 miles away and cannot be there to help, and I so want her to know I am thinking about her thru her journey. I feel helpless.

A lap quilt is a wonderful idea. She will be honored that you care enough to take the time to make and send a gift. You can't be there in person to support her, but every time she sees the quilt you will be with her.

She must have been a wonderful foster mother.

By all means make her a warm lap quilt. She'll love it and it will be so useful. Make it big enough that she can put it over her when she lays down so that she'll feel like she's wrapped in your arms. Don't worry about making it elaborate or fancy, just get it done and get it to her.

I think that's a beautiful gesture. She will love you all the more for it!

Do it now you will never regret it.
Make it simple.

Go for it! She'll be wrapped in your love every time she uses it.

I'm sure she was a wonderful and loving mentor for you growing up. She would so appreciate a comfort quilt from you at this time. I know not being there is really difficult...but a quilt hug would be awesome.

I think it is a very good idea.

Go - get it done - get it sent.

In the meantime, send her a letter telling her how much she means to you and how much you appreciated everything.

((Hugs))

Wonderful idea, anything you do from the heart will give her strength to face her illness. A weekly card of encouragement would help as you try and finish the lap quilt, it would give her something to look forward to.

I think that is a wonderful idea. anything made from love is loved in return, it is so hard when you live so far away but I am sure a lap quilt will help shorten the distance between you, a phone call out of the blue or a letter or card will all tell her how much you love her and wish you could be there for her.
