I think this would be an easy and can be a very pretty quilt to make. Go for it. Do you know what colors that you want to use?

sunnyhope 06-11-2009 02:31 PM

not really but i do have lots of fat quarters

Jim's Gem 06-11-2009 02:33 PM

I love to make quilts that have lots of colors and different fabrics in them. I think this could be quite beautiful as a "scrappy" quilt. Just remember to try and keep your values the same as on the pattern. Such as a light and dark 4 patch and your rails would be in value order.

azam 06-11-2009 02:36 PM

Super easy pattern, go for it!!!

sunnyhope 06-11-2009 02:37 PM

i can try and take sum photos of my fabric but i do need to get sum more in yrdage so if u know someone good and cheap that posts cheap to norway...........................

Lacelady 06-11-2009 03:27 PM

Dear Sunnyhope, NY Nancy mentioned a fabric supplier that shipped overseas on a different thread (Frustrated with chain Qs in my area):

About international shipping from http://www.favoritefabric.com ... you'll be interested to know that they also insure all their international packages, "just in case". I'm not sure that's true of all online shops!

I hope this helps. I have also ordered from Hancocks of Paducah, they ship overseas.

Cute pattern. Or even simpler is using the rail fence for the entire quilt. It's looks nice too I think!

amma 06-11-2009 04:42 PM

I think you would be very happy with this pattern, it's pretty and fairly easy :D  :D

bj 06-11-2009 04:58 PM

I like that pattern, whether you are a beginner or not. It looks like it would be pretty forgiving if it's not perfect. I say go for it. I'd go with monochromatic, different shades of the same color, and I think any color would work up nicely. Good luck!

omak 06-11-2009 05:08 PM

You picked an excellent beginner project. And, you have a website that makes following her directions very easy.
If you made the straight/railfence blocks from one color way - - or even a different color way on each of those railfence angles, and then used "scrappy" for the nine patches, you would be able to use your stash and have a very nice quilt.
I have done many quilts from Claudia's QUilt Shoppe, including buying her book because I have found her simple, straightforward directions to create a fine quilt that looks as though I had done something far more intricate.
THe best way I know to get "experience" is to DO IT. And, this quilt will help you feel very capable and learn alot about making a quilt.
Go for it - - and use what you have on hand.

As it is laid out in the photo I don't care for it, but I love scrappy quilts and I think it would perk it up quite well.

MadQuilter 06-11-2009 05:56 PM

That's a great beginner quilt and all straight stitching.

littlehud 06-11-2009 06:05 PM

I think it's cute. It should be alot of fun to make. Can't wait to see it. Please keep us posted on your progress.

sewnsewer2 06-11-2009 06:42 PM

That's pretty and I think it would be pretty easy, I say go for it!

OHSue 06-11-2009 06:58 PM

That is an excellent pattern, looks really fun to do and when done it looks more complicated than it really is.

tuesy 06-11-2009 08:40 PM

I think it's a great quilt to make. Someone here made a beautiful quilt with the blocks like this..

Bevanger 06-12-2009 04:49 AM

Great pattern. I never made it........ yet, looks fun. Go for it. Please show us how you did. We love pics.

rayone 06-12-2009 06:29 AM

I actually have that quilt bookmarked to make myself!

mytwopals 06-12-2009 06:49 AM

The pattern is really easy. The hardest part (but not that difficult) will be lining up the seams in the 16-Patch blocks. The Rail Fence blocks will be super easy. Just be precise with the rotary cutting and the seam allowances and it'll come together nicely for you.

quiltluvr 06-12-2009 07:51 AM

Very good choice. But you know the "rule" here, you are now obligated to post a picture of it when you decide the colors and all. :D

I think that is a great pattern for a beginner. You should definitely make it. :-)

wraez 06-18-2009 09:59 AM

Hey that looks fun, definitely easy...a quick quilt for feeling a sense of accomplishment when it is completed.

I'm bookmarking it for future reference.

thanks for sharing

warm quilt hugs

Very Pretty. Are you planning to do it in the colors they show? I approve. After all, my favorite color is blue.

nellie 06-18-2009 10:46 AM

very cool pattern

KyKaren1949 06-18-2009 12:51 PM

I'm a new quilter too. I just finished cutting out and am starting to sew together a Quilt Pattern named "Turning Twenty." It's going to be very easy to make. I found fat quarters on sale at Lolly's in Shipshewana, IN. to use to make it. Can't wait to get it finished!!
The Rail Fence pattern is the first square we learned to cut and sew in my beginning quilting class. It's really easy! I've seen it online in all kinds of color combinations. THey're all pretty.

Sunnyhope: I've used this pattern many times to make charity quilts. The pattern is EASY, quick and quite attractive. If you make it, rearrange the units to see the different patterns you can get. I've used
6 1/2 inch plain blocks with the Rail Fence blocks and that turns out nice. I think you'll enjoy this pattern. Great for a beginner to use to gain some quilting confidence. Post pictures of whatever you end up making. We all LOVE pictures.

Mousie 06-19-2009 01:18 PM

I like this pattern and think the blues would be nice. Probably look good in any color. :D

tigerlily11 06-19-2009 10:12 PM

Very nice choice. Easy and creative. Not boring.

Myraquilt 06-20-2009 12:45 PM

Nice choice. Plus if you wish to make it larger, you can always do so by adding one or more borders. Enjoy! Myra

sunnyhope 06-20-2009 01:01 PM

I will let you know when i start sewing its just that i need a proper ruler first as i only have a 4 inch template................

MikkiG 06-20-2009 06:45 PM

I like your quilt. I wonder what it would look like in red. :) I think you did a very good job

Marilyn Philips 06-28-2009 12:52 PM

Simple or not it's a very versatile pattern. Lots of opportunity for subtle or colorful fabrics. Would make a very nice gift pattern for just about anyone. Happy quilting.
