What to do w/ 32 strips?
While searching high and low for a ruler, I found 32 beautiful batik strips. Have no idea what to do with them or what happened to the other eight strips! Lol any ideas that does not include a jelly race quilt?
i am open to anything but that type of quilt. If I have to add a neutral it would probably be a light silver gray batik. But that would be shopping ....trying to use up stash Thanks so much for your ideas! |
I think the quilt done like a present with pink flowers was really cute. It had the strips going in 4 different directions in each quarter of the quilt separated by the " ribbon" and then applique flowers.

This may help you. Today was supposed to be jelly roll day. I worked outside- no quilting in my weeds :)
There are some cute patterns and one specifically called for 32 strips! http://www.projectjellyroll.com/three-more-sleeps/ |
Well, I like to do hexies so I would probably turn them into 1 inch hexies and then form a design.

Have you checked out Missouri star tutorials on YouTube.......many patterns there that you might be able to use....

Made these totes and they were fun, easy and the totes are big! Usable in many different ways!

Did you see this weeks Midnight Quilt Show? It uses strips in a different way. Maybe that would work for you.

If colors are appropriate maybe a rail fence. You could maybe use some of your stash to make a bigger quilt.

framed 4 patch.

Friendship braid?

I am in the process of making a courthouse steps quilt that Jenny Doan made out of a jelly roll. Don't know why but have been having a desire to make some kind of log cabin quilt so decided to go with Courthouse Steps.

I like to mix strips and large scale prints or framed prints like these quilts.

You could add some from your stash and make Many Trips Around the World Bonnie Hunter style.

I know that Block magazine has a beautiful 9 patch with less than one jelly roll. Cut your jelly roll into 2.5" squares and use your background. I had a jelly roll from Kaffe Fasset fabric that was ugly to me, and I made the prettiest lap quilt using Kona Snow with it. Added a small purple border and a larger off beat lavender polka dot. I just alternated the Kona Snow with the Kaffe fabric squares, but a 16 patch works great too. I made some charity quilts using 2.5 squares in 4 patches and alternated them on point with solid fabrics. They looked so good, I kept one.

KenmoreGal2, I have never seen quilts like yours. They are so unique and good to use large florals.
I REALLY like your quilts, thank you for showing us. |
I like to make placemats with strips, especially batik ones.
|
I was just informed by my SIL they he and everyone else would love a quilted beer cozy...or a knitted one. That would take at least 32 strips to make them all.

There are lots of ideas for using Jelly Rolls on Pinterest. Like ArlaJo suggested, you could make a Friendship Braid, and if your 32 strips aren’t enough, you could intersperse them with solid colors:
https://www.craftsy.com/blog/2014/12...h-braid-quilt/ or add solid color columns between the columns: https://www.pinterest.com/pin/448389...71304/?lp=true |

Got this email today from Martingale. $5 for books. Saw some precut books in the mix. http://blog.shopmartingale.com/

I did the 3 Dudes Amazing Jelly Roll quilt and it's really fun and comes out well. There's a MSQC tutorial on it. I used strips I cut myself instead of a jelly roll.
|
MSQC has a tute on a Fence Rail Star. Watched it last night, 1 or 2 baby quilts from 1 jelly roll. Also the Midnight Quilt Show tute is also very interesting. I will be needing to try that also.

Moda Bake Shop. com and the fabric manufacturers sites have free patterns available too

I have a jelly roll with only 20 strips, and I was thinking of this, as each block uses most of a strip:

Moda Bake Shop has a great Jelly Roll Lone Star pattern I'm just preparing to have a go at and it only uses 25 strips plus background fabric. A scrappy star would be pretty in batiks depending on your colour and contrast selection.

Are you interested in something simple like this? It needs no pattern and could show off your fabric.
