Below is the link for you to see a picture of 1 way to use your squares.. Sew them in rows and fuse wonder under to the back of your sewn rows, trace a shape and cut it out and applique to a background. Mine is a sewing machine. Fun to try!

I’m doing granny squares with some old fabrics I have. So freakin’ simple and these were made with 2.5” squares, with blocks ending up 11” square. Nothing says the fabrics have to match - they could be all different colors and still look great!

I keep a basket of 2 1/2" squares by my machine and use them as leaders and ends. Next thing you know there is enough for a small quilt!

A relaxing process is just start sewing the squares together to make a quilt. Then if you want it to be more, appliqué shapes on the quilt, such as leaves, child shapes, or whatever. Don't have to do much thinking and sometimes we need that in our busy, hectic lives.

I found a stack of about 700 unused 2.5" Y2K squares recently and started looking around, I think I could pretty much quilt for the rest of my life using nothing but 2.5" cuts. It's no wonder that my 2.5" ruler is one of my most often used.

Keep in mind that you can take two squares and sew along the diagonal, cutting the excess off of one half and you would end up with a 2.5" HST so you aren't limited to squares alone.

I decided to do a traditional Flying Square block, super scrappy but they are not all unique. I avoided partial seam blocks for a long time but one reason I chose to do this is my new-to-me sewing machine (instead of my old vintage machine) has a thread cutter and I'm trying to learn how make use of the machine. Partial seams aren't really that big a deal but I was much less covered with threads afterwards.

I am making 9-patch blocks with my 2 1/2" squares. I was in a swap recently and we swapped 9-patch blocks. We used 5 scrappy 2 1/2" squares and 4 white squares. This block will be 6 1/2" unfinished and I am making a friendship block for the alternating blocks. It is fun to get scrappy blocks from across the country. There are so many patterns you could use your 2 1/2" squares for and I think you will get tons of ideas from all of these wonderful board members. Good luck and let us know what you decide.
